Reporting to the Director of EHS, the EHS Engineer works to achieve these goals by integrating EHS into our culture and everyday activities. Key to success in this position is the ability to build relationships and lead by example as someone with an unwavering commitment to safety. The EHS Engineer helps develop and implement programs that mitigate risk, ensure regulatory compliance, establish emergency preparedness, and promote health and well-being. A specific focus in this role is hazardous waste program management and environmental permitting. The position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and time management.
Responsibilities
- Promote Safety as the Number One Priority of all OMG employees.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable EH&S standards, regulations, and company policies.
- Provide support and guidance daily on safe work practices and risk management.
- Assist with the design and implementation of specialized programs to ensure compliance with safety programs including hazardous materials (HazMat) and hazardous waste management and environmental permitting.
- Ensure OSHA, MassDEP, and EPA compliance with hazard communications (HazCom), medical surveillance, emergency response, wastewater, VOC emissions and hazardous waste programs are maintained.
- Develop and conduct training on HazMat and environmental permitting program management policies and practices.
- Support the management of additional EHS programs including storm water management, blood-borne pathogens, audiometric testing program, fall protection, confined space and ergonomics.
- Assist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional knowledge, skill, and abilities.
- Review proposed occupational safety policies, guidelines, and standards to determine their consistency with accepted engineering principles and practices and recommend technical changes as needed.
- Perform incident/accident investigations, root cause analysis, determination of corrective actions, and ensure recommended corrective actions/preventative measures are completed in a timely manner.
- Perform Industrial Hygiene monitoring for heat stress, air quality, confined space atmospheric testing, and perform ergonomic evaluations and recommendations.
- Drive continuous improvement and ergonomics initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all injury case management and worker's compensation claims.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelors' Degree in relevant field.
- 3+ years' experience overseeing hazardous materials management and/or environmental permitting preferred.
- Ability to understand and apply technical knowledge base of safety and industrial hygiene regulations, concepts, practices, and principles.
- Ability to create formal written programs and policies for regulatory compliance, training, and recordkeeping.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including the ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and drive effectiveness.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, project management and leadership skills.
- Proven ability to effect organizational change.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
- Strong leadership skills, and the ability to energize and motivate teams.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
- Willingness to travel (up to 10%).
- Positive can-do attitude.
