Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented STS Intermacs Data Abstractors to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for collecting, reviewing, and abstracting complex clinical data from medical records and electronic health records (EHR) systems related to mechanical circulatory support devices. Your expertise will ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of data submitted to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Intermacs database, which is essential for advancing research, improving patient outcomes, and supporting quality improvement initiatives. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge cardiovascular care through meticulous data management and analysis.

Responsibilities
- Abstract detailed clinical information from medical records and electronic health records (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with STS Intermacs data collection protocols.
- Accurately code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems, with a clear understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Manage large datasets within databases, maintaining data integrity and confidentiality throughout all processes.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify ambiguous or incomplete data entries to ensure high-quality data abstraction.
- Review medical records for relevant information on device implantation, patient outcomes, complications, and follow-up care related to mechanical circulatory support devices.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems proficiently to extract pertinent clinical details efficiently.
- Conduct thorough analysis of collected data to identify trends or discrepancies that may impact research or quality reporting efforts.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical office setting or health information management environment is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding standards and their application in clinical documentation.
- Familiarity with EMR systems, databases, and data collection tools used in healthcare settings.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and cardiovascular procedures related to mechanical circulatory support devices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex datasets with precision while adhering to strict confidentiality standards.
- Excellent analysis skills with attention to detail; ability to identify inconsistencies or errors in clinical data.

Pay: $31.50 - $34.50 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week
