Summary:
Responsible for promoting GDI’s Safety initiatives, goals, and objectives to ensure compliance with corporate, legal and client specific requirements across assigned territory.
Essential Duties:
- Provide safety training for employees on policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Advise the VP Risk & Safety as well as Operations Leaders on safety issues and compliance in specific projects and operations.
- Maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines.
- Manage incident reports, workers compensation cases, metrics, and injury case studies to institute changes that lead to a safer environment.
- Enforce Health & Safety regulations.
- Perform safety meetings, safety conference calls, and tool box talks to the appropriate employee level.
- Perform Job hazard analysis’, safety audits, inspections and behavioral observations.
- Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
- Interpret and enforce company policies and procedures for workers.
- Observe work and monitor workers to ensure that operators conform to environmental, health and safety standards.
- Conduct employee training in safety policy and procedures.
- Confer with management to resolve environmental, health and safety violations, hazards, risks or work practices.
- Gather appropriate metrics and calculate labor and safety metrics requirements and specifications, using standard formulas.
- Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve awareness, safe production methods, equipment, or efficiency while maintaining.
- Requisition safety materials, supplies, or PPE for workers.
- Recommend or execute personnel actions, such as evaluations, or disciplinary counseling or warnings concerning safety policies.
Qualifications:
- Degree or certificate in environmental health, safety or business or related field
- 3+ years of EHS experience required
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA Federal requirements and Michigan OSHA (MIOSHA)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead and teach a team
- Great attention to detail
- Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms
- Excellent organizational skills
