Developing Kingdoms In Different Stages (Developing K.I.D.S.) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering communities through Youth Development, Family Engagement, Workforce Development, and Community Support. We aim to nurture leadership within each community we serve, fostering strong connections among families and individuals to build thriving communities.
Over the past four years, Developing K.I.D.S. has experienced significant growth, doubling its impact and expanding its team. Now fully operating in our new home, we are focused on deepening our impact through operational growth and long-term sustainability.
General Description of Position:
The desired candidate will be able to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment that supports our students, staff, and families. The candidate will perform routine cleaning and sanitation in a school environment, as well as pre- and post-event cleanup for special events, ensuring that our spaces are prepared for daily programming and special occasions. The Custodial Staff Member must uphold high moral standards and demonstrate professionalism that represents Developing K.I.D.S. positively and respectfully. The desired candidate will be dependable, organized, and committed to creating an environment where children and families can thrive.
Specific Duties:
- Clean and disinfect classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust all floor types and surfaces.
- Empty trash and recycling bins and replace liners.
- Wipe down and clean all windows and window sills regularly.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and floors.
- Refill soap dispensers, paper towels, toilet paper, and other supplies.
- Wipe down and clean appliances in staff areas (e.g., refrigerators, microwaves, stoves).
- Clean and disinfect kitchen and breakroom areas.
- Clean kick plates and door handles to maintain appearance and hygiene.
- Assist with setup and cleanup before and after special events (e.g., furniture arrangement, trash removal, sweeping/mopping).
- Maintain janitorial closets and supplies in an orderly and stocked condition.
- Report any safety concerns or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including proper use of cleaning chemicals.
- Other tasks as assigned
Characteristics/Skills/Qualifications
- Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred, especially in school or childcare settings.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow cleaning schedules.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, walking, and standing for extended periods.
- Must be available to work occasional evenings or weekends for events.
- Must pass a criminal and child abuse/neglect background check.
