Summary:
Goldbelt Professional Services (GPS) is currently looking for a Sr. Health Communication Specialist to work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics (CFA). The candidate will be expected to create communication products for multiple channels and audiences using plain language standards and clear communication best practices. The Sr. Health Communications Specialist will report to Goldbelt C6 leadership (another subsidiary of Goldbelt) to ensure the execution of timely, high-quality deliverables for the client.
Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
- Draft responses on behalf of leadership.
- Provide technical review of documents, both internal and external to CDC
- Provide writing, editing, and related services needed for health communication.
- Write, clear, and coordinate with appropriate CDC customer to ensure the dissemination of information.
- Prepare presentation materials for internal and external presentations.
- Create all materials and satisfy language requirements of The Plain Writing Act of 2010
- Create and disseminate communication materials in a manner to support the goals of the CDC/ATSDR Action Plan to Improve Health Literacy.
- Provide relevant expert personnel in health communication, social marketing, health literacy (including literacy and numeracy), clear communication and plain language, media relations, social media, formative research, and evaluation, that can provide individual consultation and technical assistance to CDC and its constituents based on their expressed needs.
- Development of print publications such as, Congressional fact sheets, articles, newsletters, peer-review articles, etc.
- Development of support documents for senior leadership such as talking points, briefing documents, PowerPoint presentations, and media interview preparation documents
- Develop creative briefs that clearly describe proposed new materials/messaging and obtain reviewer feedback and approval before starting the development of the materials.
- Compile and analyze evaluation data (e.g., web metrics, social media outreach, partner outreach, news media coverage, public inquiries) for communication activities, messages/materials and present the data and findings in a cohesive, organized format with recommendations.
- Support emergency response activities with oral, visual, and written communication product development and reviews.
- Support the strategic communication team.
- Gather data and develop products such as fact sheets, program briefings, questions and answers, program summaries, web pages, and program-in-briefs.

- Ability to review and edit materials developed by staff to ensure program objectives are being met.
- Able to provide consultation, technical assistance, and training on program and project implementation to internal and external groups.
- Able to collaboratively work with other health communication specialists to ensure health communication activities are based on theory and use accepted principles, methods, and practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office to include PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree Communications, English, Health Education, Public Health, or related discipline.
- 5-7 years’ experience writing and editing in the healthcare or public health sectors, including experience with communication or health education.
- Experience developing communication and marketing programs, projects, and strategies for the public and other audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with 508 compliance.
- Prior experience working with the CDC is highly desired to understand the culture and environment.
The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 annually.
