BASIC FUNCTION
Investigates, recognizes, and evaluates air-related hazards and recommends controls, including include air contaminants, and chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic hazards.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY
Involves no responsibility or authority for the direction of others.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Key external contacts include federal regulatory agencies such as DOEE, EPA, and OSHA. Internal contacts include Facility Management and the Operations and Maintenance team, Chemical Hygiene Officers, Building Safety Managers, Heads of Academic Departments, faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Recognize engineering, work practice, and administrative controls that are the primary means of eliminating and reducing air emission exposure through reducing or removing the hazard at the source.
- Oversees that all aspects of services provided by the University that aid in determining the correct engineering controls including eliminating toxic chemicals and replacing harmful toxic material and installing general and local ventilation systems.
- Advise and collaborate with management to resolve occupational health issues, creating and executing studies to monitor and assess employee’s exposure to health risks, and measure the effectiveness of occupational health programs, policies, and procedures.
- Assess and analyze air emission data, summarizing statistics and compiling reports.
- Proposing and leading the implementation of programs to prevent air emissions through engineering controls, and protect employee health, and implementing ergonomics.
- Conducting regular audits of programs, ensure employee awareness of occupational health and safety concerns, and conduct training for air emissions and indoor air quality.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field. Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification or ability to obtain a CIH. Three plus years of work experience in a similar role. Proficient knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and procedures in the District.
- Proficient computer skills, Proficient organizational skills, Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
- Knowledge of local, state, and fire and building codes.
- Ability to speak concisely and in a professional manner to a diverse population.
- Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and standards.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious relationships with staff, students, faculty, University Officials, and the general public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree required and 1-3 years of related experience. 8 years of related work experience may be substituted in lieu of educational qualifications.

Expected Salary Range: $75,000 - $83,000
