We are seeking a dynamic and highly experienced Director of Safety Compliance and Operations to lead our safety initiatives for our long haul hazmat transportation company.

- USA Logistics is a fast-growing trucking and freight services company operating nationwide. We run a mixed fleet of owner-operators and leased drivers and are in an active scale-up phase, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, operational discipline, and long-term enterprise value creation.
We are seeking a Director of Safety & Operations to own and integrate safety, compliance, and day-to-day operational execution across the fleet. This is a senior leadership role with real authority, real accountability, and real impact on the company’s future.
Role Overview
The Director of Safety & Operations is responsible for reducing risk, improving CSA/SMS scores, strengthening operational discipline, and building scalable systems that support growth. This role sits at the intersection of safety, compliance, dispatch operations, driver management, and insurance performance.
You will lead safety strategy, oversee operational execution, manage internal teams and vendors, and serve as the primary point of accountability for FMCSA compliance and loss prevention.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety & Compliance Leadership
- Own all FMCSA, DOT, and CSA/SMS compliance across the fleet
- Lead corrective action plans to reduce violations, inspections, crashes, and insurance risk
- Manage driver qualification files (DQFs), MVR monitoring, medical cards, and certifications
- Oversee accident response, investigations, and root-cause analysis
- Serve as the primary contact for audits, roadside trends, and insurance underwriters
- Implement and enforce safety policies, driver standards, and accountability frameworks
Operational Oversight
- Oversee daily fleet operations in partnership with dispatch and driver support teams
- Establish SOPs for onboarding, terminations, inspections, maintenance, and incident response
- Monitor trailer compliance, equipment readiness, and documentation accuracy
- Identify and remove repeat high-risk drivers and operational bottlenecks
- Ensure consistency across owner-operators and leased drivers
Technology & Systems
- Lead implementation and rollout of:
- Telematics / cameras
- Digital binders & document systems
- Safety monitoring tools (e.g., SambaSafety, ELDs, TMS integrations)
- Use data and dashboards to track trends, predict risk, and drive decisions
Insurance & Risk Management
- Partner with ownership, brokers, and insurers to improve risk profile
- Support insurance renewals, mid-term reviews, and underwriting narratives
- Reduce claim frequency and severity through proactive controls
Team Leadership
- Manage and develop safety coordinators, compliance staff, and operational support roles
- Set KPIs, expectations, and performance standards
- Train drivers and internal teams on safety and operational best practices

Qualifications
- 3+ years in trucking safety, compliance, or fleet operations
- Prior leadership experience in a motor carrier environment
- Deep working knowledge of FMCSA regulations and CSA/SMS scoring
- Experience managing owner-operators and leased fleets strongly preferred
- Proven ability to reduce violations, crashes, and insurance risk
- Comfortable in high-accountability, fast-moving environments
- Strong communicator who can enforce standards without burning bridges
