We are seeking a skilled, innovative Healthcare Statistical Subject Matter Expert to join our team and play a pivotal role in developing data-driven insights for our clients.
Position Overview:
The Healthcare Statistical Subject Matter Expert (SME) provides senior-level applied statistical expertise to support the CAHPS for MIPS Survey, with a focus on ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and CMS compliance of statistical methodologies used for scoring, benchmarking, and reporting.
Applicants must have a demonstrated background in healthcare IT, including experience supporting CMS, HHS, or healthcare quality reporting systems.
Candidates without healthcare IT experience should not apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert oversight of case-mix adjustment, weighting, and variance estimation methodologies used for CAHPS for MIPS
- Review and advise on scoring and benchmarking methodologies to ensure alignment with CMS-approved specifications
- Support CMS inquiries related to statistical methods, assumptions, and impacts
- Identify potential statistical risks (e.g., bias, outliers, missing data) and recommend mitigation approaches
- Review proposed methodological changes for continuity and backward compatibility
- Collaborate with program leadership to ensure statistical approaches are clearly documented and defensible
Scope Boundaries
- Does not perform survey fielding, vendor management, or data ingestion
- Does not author CMS policy or approve final deliverables
- Does not evaluate or validate work products the SME personally developed
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience supporting the federal government, preferably with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
- 10+ years of applied statistical experience supporting healthcare surveys or quality measurement programs
- Demonstrated experience with CMS, CAHPS, HEDIS, or similar federal quality programs
- Expertise in applied statistics (e.g., regression, weighting, variance estimation), not purely academic research
- Ability to communicate complex statistical concepts clearly to non-statistical stakeholders
