Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs across all transportation operations. This role ensures full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and EPA regulations, promotes a culture of safety among all drivers and staff, and manages all safety-related training, reporting, and incident investigations. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional who can lead by example, communicate effectively, and see projects through from planning to completion.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all aspects of transportation safety programs, policies, and compliance efforts.
- Direct supervision of safety assistant as well as indirect supervision of 62 company drivers.
- Ensure company adherence to all DOT rules and regulations related to hazardous materials, driver qualifications, vehicle inspections, and load securement.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, driver training sessions, and audits.
- Investigate and document all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor and analyze safety metrics and trends to drive continuous improvement.
- Develop and execute safety projects and initiatives that improve operational safety and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate closely with dispatch, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure safety practices are integrated into all processes.
- Maintain proper documentation and records in accordance with federal and state requirements.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
- Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the transportation industry, with a strong understanding of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and bulk hauling operations.
- Expert-level knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.
- Proven leadership and project management experience.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to train, mentor, and lead teams effectively.
- Proficiency with basic computer systems and safety reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Safety Director or Compliance Manager in trucking or logistics.
- HAZMAT, OSHA 30, or Transportation Safety certifications.
- Experience working with bulk chemical transport, tankers, and hazardous waste.
