Position Overview:
ROMTech is looking for an experienced Safety Coordinator to manage the ROMTech Safety and Health Program. As Safety Coordinator, you will provide guidance to management personnel regarding all workplace safety and health issues, provide statistics on injuries to identify trends and serve as point person, in conjunction with department managers, for external safety regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA).
This position will report directly to the VP, Service and Delivery and work closely with the Facilities Manager with the Employee Safety Committee as well as partner with People Operations & Benefits teams on work-related injuries. This position is based at our headquarters in Brookfield, CT.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Facility Manager with the Employee Safety Committee and other safety committees as needed.
- Provide monthly statistics on injuries to identify trends and potential problems.
- Manage the ROMTech Safety and Health Program.
- Provide guidance and assistance to ROMTech management personnel regarding all workplace safety and health issues. A) Define, investigate, and remediate safety issues using any feasible means possible. & B) Perform follow up inspections to verify success of mitigation efforts.
- Arrange for and perform regular safety inspections of ROMTech facilities and worksites.
- Exercise the independent authority to shut down a worksite due to imminent danger, serious safety risks and/or the potential risk of injury to any person.
- Establish and maintain a respiratory protection program consistent with OSHA 1910.134, Respiratory Protection Program. A) Provide technical support, B) Evaluate tasks for which respiratory protection is deemed necessary; determine the degree of hazard posed by the potential exposure; determine if engineering or administrative controls are feasible; and, specify which respiratory protection device is to be used for each task. & C) Train personnel in the selection and use of respiratory protective devices, conduct qualitative and quantitative fit testing, and issue necessary protective devices.
- Monitor developments and trends in regulatory requirements, advisory agency guidelines, and best management practices.
- Serve as point person, in conjunction with department managers, for external safety regulatory agencies, i.e., Federal OSHA, CONN OSHA.
- Administer and update safety-training database.
- Verify compliance with The Hazard Communications Standard 1910.1200.
- Assist in developing and delivering safety training and educational programs in both formal and informal settings; prepare relevant handouts and other information materials to support these sessions.
- Serve as a regular member of the Incident/Accident Investigation Team.
- Perform air quality monitoring of various company facilities as needed and using the equipment provided based on the hazard. This monitoring may include the use of photoionization detectors, detector tube and chip measurement systems.
- Manage various safety improvement projects involving the use of contractor personnel.
- Create and maintain emergency plans to prepare for non-routine incidents that may occur.
- Regularly update written health and safety programs.
- Develop new and review existing Job Safety Analysis.
- Train employees that work above grade in fall protection requirements.
- Train specific employees to perform confined space entry and rescue.
- Develop detailed Health and Safety Plans for work operations in areas of environmental contamination.
- Maintain the ROMTech Contractor Safety Qualification Program. Review contractor submissions. Inspect Contractor worksites for compliance with ROMTech contractor safety rules.
- Develop and maintain emergency health and safety plans in accordance with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS).
- Partner with People Operations & Benefits on work-related injuries.
- Other duties as necessary to accomplish the mission, vision, and values of our organization
Requirements:
- Superior oral and written communication skills to maintain effective and cooperative relationships with the diverse areas associated with RWA operations and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to use word-processing spreadsheet, graphics/presentation, and database programs.
- Solid knowledge of applicable safety and health regulations, advisory guidelines, and best management practices, with special emphasis on OSHA regulatory issues and requirements, hazardous chemicals and materials, health and air quality, ergonomics, fall protection, and fire safety.
- Possess knowledge of The National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) and can serve as the ROMTech Safety Officer if the ROMTech Incident Management Plan is implemented.
