InconjunctionwiththeMilitaryDeputy/DirectorforOccupationalandEnvironmentalHealth, performs plans, coordinates,develops, and disseminates operational policies, guidance, and proceduresfor the Army Safety and OccupationalHealth Program based upon policy direction ASA(IE&E),statutoryrequirements,and nationalstandards.This positionis in the Officeof the DeputyAssistantSecretaryofthe ArmyforEnvironment,Safety,andOccupationalHealth.
Description Of Assignment/Duties
- Acts as the senior subject matter expert for Industrial Hygiene and represents the Department of the Army on key Department of Defense councils and before federal regulatory agencies like OSHA, NIOSH, and the EPA.
- Manages critical Industrial Hygiene programs during natural disasters, emergency responses, and high-risk environmental restoration and cleanup projects.
- Develops specialized safety and industrial hygiene training programs for Army components while analyzing health trends to recommend preventive countermeasures and program improvements directly to executive leadership
- Formulates, coordinates, and promulgates Army-wide safety and occupational health policies, national OSHA standards, and risk management procedures to safeguard Soldiers and Civilians enterprise-wide.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Minimum Education Requirement
- A bachelor’s or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or a related science. My education was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
- A bachelor’s degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. My education was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technicology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.
OR
- A certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
Minimum Experience Requirement: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Provide technical guidance on occupational safety and health programs to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and national standards; 2. Develop occupational health policies for a large, complex organization to mitigate workplace hazards and ensure mission readiness; 3. Evaluate health and safety programs by analyzing diverse, high-risk occupational and environmental health hazards to recommend preventive measures; 4. Administer an industrial hygiene program during emergency response operations involving unique or complex environmental hazards; and 5. Provide expert consultation on complex industrial hygiene issues to eliminate or control health hazards across an organization. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
