As a surgery scheduler you will work as a team with other medical assistants, assist with procedure/ surgical set-up/ booking with hospital/ surgery center, respond to patient messages, submit authorizations for surgery and post-op physical therapy, complete patient forms, data entry, schedule appointments, send out for specific studies when needed and to perform duties as directed.

Educational Requirements:
- Highschool degree
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred
- Orthopedic knowledge preferred
Qualifications and Experience:
- Excellent Customer Service skills
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge of ICD10 and CPT Codes.
- Working knowldege of practice management and word processing software.
- Experience with EMR ( OfficeAlly preferred)
- Knowledge of the human anatomy
- Bilingual ( Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, or Korean)
- Book surgeries with affiliated hospital/ surgery centers

- Book surgeries with hospital/surgery centers and notify patient.
- Educate patient for surgery process .
- Prepares for the day surgical procedures by assuring that all medical records, test results and films are available for the physician.
- Send PCP/ Cardiologist pre-op orders.
- Assures all records for surgeries received by hospital or surgery centers .
- Schedule pre-op/ post-op appointments, send post-op x-ray orders.
- Submit authorization for surgery & post-op physical therapy/ DME .
- Documents all patient correspondence in OfficeAlly, whether the encounter is in person, by phone, fax or e-mail.
- Reviews pharmacy requests for prescription refills according to physician protocol.
- Obtains and reviews all test results and reports ordered by physician. Presents abnormal results to physician for immediate review. Assures all results and reports are in the medical record for physician to review and approve.
- Obtains internal authorization for workers’ compensation referrals to physicians, services or surgery.
- Provides internal office staff, workers’ compensation adjusters, and/or case managers with work status reports and other clinical information as requested.
- Completes patient disability forms for physician approval.
- Scans/files patient documents into OfficeAlly.
- Complies with governmental protocols to ensure safety measures complaint with HIPAA regulations.
- Consistently meet Surgical Productivity Standards as defined.
