Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance Coordinator
We are a leading, nationwide Asian food importer and distributor with operations in both Southern and Northern California. Following our recent company merger, we now operate as one unified organization serving customers across the United States.
We are seeking a Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance Coordinator to support our expanding food safety program.
Gemini Food Corporation (http://geminifoodcorp.com) has a long-standing reputation for importing and distributing high-quality Asian food products throughout the U.S. As part of our commitment to excellence and full compliance with FDA FSMA requirements, we currently have a Food Safety Supervisor in place and are adding additional support to strengthen our regulatory compliance efforts.
Position Characteristics:

- This position provides guidance and support within the company to Operations, Warehouse, Sales, Supply Chain Teams and Senior Management.
- The role includes reviewing new suppliers & products, review of labeling, product recall, and assistance in regulatory activities involving the company and including the FDA, the USDA, the DHS, CBP and other regulatory agencies.
- Additional regulatory tasks will include adherence to CRV laws, Proposition 65 label compliance, Proposition 12 audit and compliance, and 3rd party lab testing of products.
- An important role for the candidate will be explaining U.S. regulations to suppliers from various countries, and to overseeing their adherence to those regulations.
- An ability to work in an international context is crucial
- Translation of technical documents from Chinese to English.
- Communication with domestic and overseas suppliers in Chinese & English.
- Candidates must have very good interpersonal and communications skills, as well as excellent project management abilities.
- Candidate mut be able to work independently in a dynamic environment.
- In addition, candidate should ideally be familiar with the Costco product qualification process.
Job Description includes (but not limited to):
· Coordinate food safety and quality assurance efforts, programs, and SOPs
· Act as liaison & translator for food safety policies and/or issues with the suppliers, manufacturers, and government officials, including maintaining a proactive relationship with the FDA and USDA
· Maintain a vendor qualification program per the requirements of the FSMA
· Review and approve new product labels, ingredients, nutrition panel, and allergen statement to ensure the needed requirements are met for the US markets
· Work with the internal departments and external parties to resolve product issues
· Oversee product recall program and product complaint resolution
· Coordinate with the outside consultants in food safety and labeling compliance
· Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned or required
· Review of FDA/USDA compliance documents, such as vet certificates, etc.
· Up to 10% travel

Qualifications:
· Career Level Required - Entry Level to Food Science professional
· Experience Required - 3+ Years
· Education Required - Bachelor's Degree (in progress or completed) in Food Science Meat Science, Microbiology or related fields experience in food safety or quality assurance
· PCQI certification is required
· Some understanding of FDA, USDA requirements and food safety standards
· Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice, HACCP, SQF, basic quality testing and safety issues
· Effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational skills along with analytical and problem-solving abilities
· Ability to express technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
· Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel
· Experience working for or with the US Health Dept, FDA or USDA preferred, including experience with import compliance
Salary
Compensation: Salary ranges between $25-$31 per hour, depending on experience.
