UL / Product Safety Laboratory Manager
Location: Atlanta, GA (On-Site | Confidential Engineering Environment)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced UL / Product Safety Laboratory Manager to lead a hands-on product safety and certification laboratory in the Atlanta metropolitan area. This role manages engineers and technicians performing UL, CSA, and IEC product safety testing, oversees daily laboratory operations, and supports certification and standards development activities.
This position is intended for candidates with direct experience working in a UL, NRTL, or internal product safety test laboratory. It is not a policy-only or audit-only compliance role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a product safety test laboratory supporting UL, CSA, and IEC certifications.
- Supervise and develop engineers, technicians, and project leaders in a laboratory environment.
- Plan staffing, scheduling, workload, and resource allocation to meet certification timelines.
- Oversee laboratory operations, including test equipment selection, procurement, installation, and maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 and internal quality management system requirements.
- Interface with engineering, product development, and quality teams to support certification projects.
- Represent the organization in standards development committees and industry working groups.
- Support project execution and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance lab capability and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- 8–12+ years of experience in product safety certification or UL/CSA/IEC testing.
- Direct experience working in a product safety test laboratory (UL, CSA, NRTL, or internal OEM lab).
- 3+ years of leadership or management experience in a laboratory or engineering environment.
- Strong working knowledge of UL, CSA, and IEC safety standards.
- Experience with ISO 17025 laboratory requirements.
- Solid understanding of electrical/electronic theory, electro-mechanical systems, and test methods.
- Ability to manage multiple certification projects while leading technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience participating in standards development committees or industry organizations.
- Familiarity with North American and international product certification processes.
- Formal management or leadership training.
- Business or operations management education or experience.

Candidates without direct product safety certification or test lab experience will not be considered.
Work Environment
- On-site role in the Atlanta, GA area.
- Office and hands-on laboratory environments.
- Regular interaction with electrical and mechanical test equipment and instrumentation.
- Low to moderate noise levels typical of a test lab setting.
Travel
- Some travel required for standards development meetings, industry participation, and related activities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment including standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to occasionally lift or move test equipment (up to approximately 65 lbs).
- Ability to work extended or irregular hours as project demands require.
