Safety Manager
SAM Construction Group is a fully integrated Developer/Builder of apartment communities who self-performs several scopes of work, including Concrete, Civil, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Framing/Drywall and Roofing.
Projects:
Our initial project, Home at Maricopa, is a 536 Unit Multi-family community with 6 apartment buildings and a clubhouse on 18.8 acres in the City of Maricopa. The apartment buildings are 4 and 5 story concrete and steel construction buildings. The clubhouse is a single-story wood framed building.
In addition, we have custom home projects located in Paradise Valley and a second project starting construction in North Phoenix, in 2025.
Job Overview:
The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs to ensure a safe working environment on construction sites. This role involves collaborating with project teams, conducting safety inspections, and providing training to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Program Development:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs and policies for construction projects.
- Stay updated on industry safety regulations, codes, and standards.
- Safety Inspections:
- Conduct regular safety inspections of construction sites to identify and address potential hazards.
- Collaborate with construction management team to ensure corrective actions are taken in a timely manner.
- Training and Education:
- Provide safety training to construction personnel on topics such as hazard recognition, fall protection, equipment operation, and emergency procedures.
- Develop and conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Incident Investigation:
- Investigate and analyze accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain thorough records of all safety-related incidents.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as industry standards.
- Interface with regulatory agencies as needed.
- Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for construction sites.
- Conduct drills to ensure the readiness of construction teams in case of emergencies.
- Communication:
- Communicate safety expectations and updates to all levels of construction personnel.
- Foster a culture of safety and promote awareness of the importance of safe work practices.
- Safety Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, including training records, inspection reports, and incident documentation.
- Generate reports to track and analyze safety performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) certification is a plus.
- OSHA 30
- Proven experience in construction safety management.
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and facilitate safety training sessions.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work in a hot non-climate control environment.
- Ability to utilize SAM Construction application on a smart phone, tablet or laptop.
- Strong working knowledge of the local multifamily construction industry and subcontractors.
- Understanding of construction equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues.
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needs.
- Understanding building permit, approval and inspection processes.
- Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent communication and partnering skills to work effectively with subcontractors, consultants, internal staff, and regulatory agencies.
- Working Knowledge of OSHA regulations and accepted Safe Work practices for the Construction Industry.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to handle physical labor and strenuous tasks.
- Able to stand and walk project site for extended period of times.
- Regularly sit, talk and/or hear.
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
- Occasionally required to but not limited to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
- Must be able to position one-self to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics and tunnels.
- Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move at least 50 pounds regularly/occasionally.
- Must be able to respond quickly to sounds.
- Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
- Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.
- Must be able to safely climb ladders while carrying up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
- Must be able to work in hot and cold environments and on concrete floors.
- Travel between jobsites.
