Job Summary
Enforces compliance to all fire safety laws and regulations in all campus buildings. Responds to emergency situations and regulation violations, facilitates training programs, inspects facilities and remediates issues, and tests the fire protection systems to ensure functionality. Maintains unique evacuation plans for all members of the University community and ensures emergency preparedness.
Essential Functions
Enforces compliance to fire safety laws and regulations in all campus buildings.
Reviews fire safety procedures and responds to violations of regulations.
Develops and delivers training programs and informational sessions to emphasize fire safety and prevention.
Maintains unique evacuation plans for all members of the University community.
Manage AEDs, coordinate maintenance and unit replacement for all campuses
Ensures emergency preparedness across all University campuses for AEDs / Fire Safety
Inspects facilities and identifies any potential hazards needing correction, including building egress paths and patterns, evacuation maps, emergency signage, and unique hazards in laboratories, work environments and residence-style buildings.
Conducts frequent testing on fire protection systems.
Conducts evacuations exercises on University of Pittsburgh campus buildings
Physical Effort
The Fire Safety Specialist will work in both office and field settings, conducting inspections, attending meetings, and responding to fire safety needs.. The position may require occasional evening or weekend work in response to safety incidents or to conduct training. Requires extensive standing, moving, ascend/descend, or bending.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification
-Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Fire protection and Safety, Fire Technology, Fire Science, or a related field -Strong knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, International Fire and Building Codes, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations. -Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. -Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. -Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.

Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
