Loudoun Water, a public water and wastewater utility located in Ashburn, Virginia, is seeking an experienced Safety Professional that is an ambitious, self-starter looking for a new challenge in a rewarding environment. The position of Risk and Safety Specialist is an essential job within the Risk, Safety and Security Department, responsible for developing, implementing and supporting safety, security and risk control programs.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Develop, implement and review occupational safety/loss control programs interfacing with all departments to achieve effective implementation
- Conduct risk control assessments and facility audits to identify exposures to accidental loss and evaluate the adequacy of current risk control measures and develop the method to control or eliminate exposures and make recommendations for corrective action
- Inspect facilities for compliance with Federal, State and local regulations and other pertinent worker safety regulations and security procedures
- Assist in overall claims administration including accident investigation, insurance claim reporting, and subrogation recoveries
- Safety Co-coordinator for Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and ERP Team Member
- Participate in Loudoun Water Safety and Security Committee as well as other internal and external peer groups and committees
- Assist with informing contractors of safety issues on site and of Loudoun Water Safety Policies and Procedures
- Liaison with the Virginia Risk Sharing Association and other risk management programs
- Maintains a secure work environment through use of programs/procedures, technology and training.
- Recommend, develop, and conduct safety training programs to increase staff safety consciousness and awareness to reduce claims frequency and severity
- Liaison with Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Regional/Federal Law Enforcement and Loudoun Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services
- Assume other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements: Associate’s degree in Risk Management, Industrial Safety, or related field preferred; or 5 years direct experience in risk and safety with public utility or VOSH/OSHA.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid driver’s license; Certified Utility Safety Administrator from the National Safety Council or OSHA Safety and Health Specialist Certificate preferred. May require work outside of normal business hours and/or on weekends as necessary to carry out job responsibilities and duties.
