We are hiring a Safety Manager to provide leadership to engage the operations teams, nurture a strong culture of safety, and build and maintain professional relationships with operations management and employees. This person will also implement company safety strategies and manage the performance and professional development of the safety staff.

- Act as technical expert and consultant to support regional operations in achieving and nurturing a strong safety and quality culture.
- Manage staff performance and facilitate their professional development through training, mentoring and coaching. Develop the team into high-performing safety professionals.
- Plan, develop and implement programs to train management staff and employees on worksite safety practices, fire prevention, material handling/lifting, equipment use and hazardous chemicals.
- Provide support to operations for all QA/QC-related tasks and functions that ensure the integrity of our work and adherence to customer/regulatory procedures and requirements.
- Develop working relationships with the regional management team and mentor them on company core values, with a focus on Safety, First and Foremost; and Quality in Everything We Do. Identify and develop high achieving champions within the management team.
- Effectively implement safety strategies and best practices. Ensure that regulatory and company requirements are being met for project sites and within facilities.
- Ensure safety resources are efficiently aligned within the region. Assign field resources to maximize time spent in the field.
- Provide safety team with effective train-the-trainer instruction for safety courses and inspections.
- Conduct thorough root cause investigations; document and collaborate with operations to develop reasonable/actionable corrective measures and communicate results.
- Conduct inspections to identify worksite- and facility-related hazards. Determine corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure successful implementation.
- Coordinate fleet safety to meet compliance with company and DOT regulations. Monitor safe driving telematics daily and work with management to ensure issues are corrected.
- Manage all safety/quality observations, communicate them to superintendents and staff weekly, and ensure they are acted upon and closed in a timely manner.
- Assist in generating materials for monthly safety meetings. Tailor the monthly safety meeting agenda received from Corporate Safety to the needs and trends of each location. Mentor and coach regional management in leading effective safety meetings.
- Ensure all new employees complete new hire orientation and all driver safety requirements before starting work in the field.

- Perform safety and quality inspections on regional work crews.
- Meet expectations of safety and quality inspections as set by the department directors.
- Report and investigate incidents which includes reporting to our customers and 811.
- Perform root-cause analysis on any serious incidents; find preventive measures, and communicate the results to the management team.
- Perform detailed investigations on any incident that results in a task procedure departure, violation or failure.
- Work closely with department directors to discuss progress and issues specific to the area
- Manage PPE supplies and order as needed.
- Track and trend safety/quality metrics for each area within the region; document and provide the data to superintendents monthly.
- Monitor all safety/quality damage prevention-related recognitions and disciplinary actions; ensure proper documentation and communication.
- Travel about 50%, including some overnight.
Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health/safety or a related field from an accredited university plus 2+ years construction experience; OR Associate’s degree and 4+ years construction/industrial industry experience and 2+ additional years safety/health-related experience; OR combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong knowledge of construction and/or industrial safety requirements; working knowledge of DOT regulations; thorough understanding and ability to enforce federal, state, local and company regulations.
- Excellent communication and people skills (oral, written and analytical) as well as interpersonal and collaborative skills at most levels within the organization and with clients. Must be able to articulate clear and concise messages including translating technical material when necessary.
- Leadership skills to effectively supervise, mentor, train and develop staff. Strong teamwork/partnering skills with ability to influence results through operations management (foremen, general foremen, and superintendents) on safety processes and methods.
- Capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with operations team and customers.
- Ability to train staff to conduct training sessions that engage the audience.
- Exceptional organization of time and workspace.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Outlook.
- Ability and willingness to travel 50% of the time, including overnight.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health/safety or a related field plus 2+ years construction experience in a leadership role. Additionally, 2+ years gas pipeline construction experience. CHST, ASP, CSP, or OSHA 501 certification.
- DOT or Smith System Driving Instructor certified.
- Confined Space Entry and Rescue certified.
- CPR Instructor certified.
- Root cause investigation experience.
