We are looking for a reliable Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) to ensure everyone on the company project with health and safety laws. The SSHO will communicate directly with field personnel, subcontractors, the client, the QCM, and the Project Manager. You will be responsible for managing, implementing and enforcing the Environmental, Safety, and Health Program in accordance with government regulations. You will be responsible for establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace. As a SSHO you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. You will be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential. The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety.
Responsibilities
- Become familiar with the Project Management Plan including this APP, the QCP, and site-specific plans.
- Preparation of Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) in coordination with subcontractors for each DFOW.
- Ensuring site personnel and visitors received the proper training prior to entering the site.
- Ensuring the company, their subcontracted personnel and visitors wear the appropriate PPE.
- Performing daily safety inspections and recording them in the daily quality control reports.
- Posting evacuation routes, emergency telephone numbers, and arranging emergency transportation.
- Observe safety compliance during performance of all definable features of work.
- Assuring that there are qualified first aid personnel on site.
- Immediately stop work in the event of non-compliance, especially in IDLH conditions.
- Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
- Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
- Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
- Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
Skills
- BS/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred
- 5-10 years of project experience in the SSHO role Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid qualifications (OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR)
- Optional Qualifications (EM385-1-1, CQCM Cert, OSHA 500)
- Proven experience as SSHO
- Hospital Experience is a must
- Familiarization with ICRA and ILSM
- Familiarization with Procore
- Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
- Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
- Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills
- Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
