Job Description
The Occupational Health and Safety Technician position supports Company Safety Programs as a member of the Safety Team. The Safety Specialist ensures facility EHS compliance across multiple Company regions, and interfaces with Company leadership and Team Members to drive initiatives in support of a Company-wide safety culture. The Safety Specialist is responsible for assessment, training, and communication, in the effort to assess risk and eliminate hazards from the workplace. This position reports to the SCBU Safety Director.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· Support the Safety Team and plant management by ensuring plants meet Company safety program standards
· Inspect workplace environments, activities and conditions to verify compliance with federal laws, regulations and requirements, primarily through safety and housekeeping audits
· Evaluates facility, equipment, and processes for risk, hazards, condition, and/or integrity, as it pertains to workplace safety.
· Provides expert EHS guidance, training and support to facility leadership and Team Members
· Perform quality assurance evaluation of the Company Safety Program through various means of KPI monitoring and document review.
· Conducts and supports facility job-safety and facility-safety training activities.
· Assist in various EHS data reports and special projects
· Support facility managers in accident investigation efforts and root cause identification.
· Lead various EHS calls and meetings, as directed
· Lead or support external-agency inspections / audits, to include OSHA, EPA, DoT, or State/Local government agency, and coordinates with legal representation, as necessary
· Conduct Job-Hazard Analysis
· Develop and assess emergency action plans
· Provide leadership and influence in support of a safety culture
· Other duties as assigned in support of the Millwood HR Team
Desired Skills and Experience
· Prior mid-level or supervisory experience in a safety-specific position
· Specific knowledge of key OSH factors (LOTO, Guarding, HAZCOM, PITs, etc.)
· Specific familiarity with 29 CFR 1910
· Time management, multi-tasking, and the ability to work independently
· Strong written and verbal skills
· Prior experience in manufacturing industry desired; not required
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Required
· Ability to produce accurate reports and suggest corrective actions
· Ability to work with others and develop positive relationships to accomplish goals
