Job Summary
The Safety Director plays a pivotal role in ensuring the overall safety and well-being of SDI’s employees, visitors, and assets. The Safety Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures, while fostering a culture of safety throughout SDI. The Safety Director acts as a key liaison with regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders, continually assessing and mitigating risks to prevent accidents, injuries, and other safety-related incidents.
Responsibilities
- Plans, administers, modifies, and enforces policies relating to all phases of corporate safety personally, or through subordinate supervisors.
- Responsible for all OSHA and ISN reporting and compliance requirements.
- Manages training of site safety managers and employees in coordination with department heads and other support staff.
- Conducts regular on-site inspections of construction projects. Observe workplace conditions and make necessary recommendations for corrective actions regarding health and safety.
- Conducts safety audits of company programs and processes to ensure they meet company safety objectives.
- Manages and tracks environmental hazards and hazardous waste removal from site including waste from maintenance/repair operations.
- Review client safety programs and health and safety manuals supporting project preconstruction activity.
- Submits daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and bulletins as needed.
- Works with project site managers to record weekly job site safety meetings and periodically attends to give feedback and presentations.
- Review and investigate accidents, incidents, and/or serious injuries. Carefully analyze reports from accident investigations to ascertain causes (Root cause analysis).
- Works with insurance carriers in investigating and reporting workers’ compensation cases as well as investigating, administrative compliance and reporting of safety incidents.
- Works with and supports project-specific site safety managers. Develops site-specific safety plans and supporting safety documents (job safety folders)
- Maintains the SDI site safety and corporate handbook/procedures and policies as required by management.
- Plans and conducts new employee safety orientation to meet company guidelines and foster a positive attitude toward SDI’s goals.
- Develop a working relationship with the unions and keep management abreast on new union safety policies and rules.
- Travel as required by management to job sites, seminars etc.
- Organize and conduct quarterly safety all-hands meetings.
- Provides labor and equipment safety training on an as-needed basis.
- Developing, implementing, and overseeing safety initiatives across SDI.
- Collaborate with departments to establish safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and monitor compliance with safety regulations.
Job Specific Activities/ Responsibilities/ Duties:
- Conducting regular site inspections, identifying potential hazards, and implementing corrective measures.
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and safety violations, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinating safety training programs, ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment, and maintaining records of safety activities and incidents.
- Participates in safety audits and compliance assessments.
- Oversee administrative tasks, such as contract negotiation, procurement, and document management, to maintain project documentation.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise construction projects from conception to completion.
- Enforce and promote a safety culture on-site, ensuring all team members adhere to safety protocols and regulations.

Education/ Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, (or equivalent) and/or 7+ years’ experience in a related field.
Certificates/ Licenses:
- OSHT/CHST certification or above
- CSP/ASP certification preferred
- OSHA 500/510 preferred
- Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $150,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
