What does Brice Builders LLC do?
Brice Builders, LLC specializes in performing Sustainment, Restoration and Modernization (SRM) of Military and Medical Facilities, Vertical and Horizontal Construction for Telecom Facilities, Commercial and Institutional Facilities, and in support of Disaster Relief programs. We also perform assembly of modular or prefabricated commercial and institutional buildings.
What can you expect?
As the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), you will work onsite in Alaska, traveling to remote project sites for extended periods of time depending on project needs and will be responsible for the safety and occupational health management of project employees. Your primary role is to oversee and enforce safety protocols, identify potential hazards, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. You will work closely with the site management and workers to conduct safety training and investigate incidents. This role requires strong knowledge of safety regulations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to address safety concerns effectively to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
How will you do it?
- Assist with development, updating, and enforcing a Project-Specific Accident Prevention Plan throughout the duration of the project (subject to client approval).
- Assist project personnel to develop, implement, review, and modify AHAs. Ensure all work is performed consistent with the applicable AHA.
- Maintain applicable safety reference material (applicable EM-385 and OSHA Construction Industry Safety Regulations) on the project site.
- Maintain a presence at the project site at all times work is being performed to perform safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, and leadership.
- Enforce all safety procedures and ensure all project personnel are adhering to the corporate safety plan to minimize exposure and risk.
- Comply with all corporate risk management goals and objectives as they apply to the project.
- Perform daily project safety and health inspections which include area/operation inspection, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections.
- Assist project personnel with incident investigations and complete required reports, including accident and incident documentation/reports, root cause analysis, and corrective actions, as needed and report results of investigation to Project Superintendent, Project Manager, and Corporate Safety Manager.
- Responsible for primary documentation and reporting of any job site injuries for workers compensation.
- Attend and participate in pre-work meetings including Preparatory Phase Inspection meetings and periodic in-progress meetings to address safety concerns, review activity hazard analyses, and document matters pertaining to safety and health.
- Maintain a safety and health bulletin board at the project site.
- Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution.
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings for all workers.
- Conduct monthly supervisory safety meetings and participate in monthly client safety meetings.
- Maintain project personnel safety training records.
- Conduct project orientation and other safety training in the field as needed.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Functions:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but has authority over project personnel, subcontractors, and vendors regarding project safety and risk mitigation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations and standards for employee health and safety and ability to implement at a project site.
- Knowledge of standard safety equipment used in construction occupations.
- Knowledge of EM 385-1-1 requirements and hazard identification and safety compliance.
- Effective professional communication and interpersonal skills with regard to internal and external written, graphical, and verbal communications, and presentations.
- Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines and general time management.
- Ability to work productively under pressure.
- Knowledge of standard business computer applications, specifically Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to develop safety policies.
- Ability to develop and conduct health and safety training classes.
- Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, both logical and interpersonal, and make decisions based on available information. Ability to use judgment and discretion.
- Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
- Ability to work on secure military facilities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to travel to remote project sites for extended periods of time.
Who is Brice Builders looking for?
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of five (5) continuous years of safety experience in Construction, or general industry managing safety programs or processes, or conducting hazard analysis and developing controls.
- 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within the last 5 years required, or the ability to attend a class upon hire.
- Ability to work on secure military facilities.
- Valid state driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Brice Builders’ Driving Policy.
- Ability to pass a drug, driving and background screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred.
- Familiarity and experience with EM 385-1-1 requirements preferred.
- USACE CQM certificate preferred.
