BAE Systems is currently recruiting for an experienced Safety / EHS Manager to support our Jacksonville, FL Ship Repair facility for Military and Commercial modernization and repairs of vessels. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of direct and indirect reports including Supervisors, Safety Specialists, Safety Technicians, Competent Persons, and administrative staff that support the safe execution of shipyard repair and production activities in accordance with the corporate safety policy and all federal, state and local regulations. You will also develop working partnerships across the organization that promote a positive, proactive approach to ensuring worker health and safety; create and maintain an effective method for review of work processes to ensure a robust approach to hazard identification, risk assessment and the implementation of operational controls; and establish and maintain the infrastructure and organization necessary to consistently deliver industry leading Safety, Health, and Environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, and implements Safety and Health processes to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains and improves Safety and Health management systems (ISO 45001).
- Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with operational leadership; engages in operations planning processes to ensure that Safety and Health considerations are proactively incorporated into operations.
- Ensures that OSHA Recordkeeping and other Safety and Health records are maintained appropriately, and that all mandatory Safety & Health compliance reporting is done in a timely manner.
- In conjunction with site operating leaders, establishes goals, targets, and action plans to ensure continual improvement and routinely monitors progress against plans.
- Works with stakeholders to lead and coordinate investigations in response to incidents and ensure that corrective and preventative measures are taken in a timely manner.
- Participates on various Site, Business, and Sector-wide teams as both a subject matter expert as well as a representative for the Business.
- Analyzes and interprets Safety and Health incident data to identify trends and formulate plans and strategies to address priority Safety and Health issues.
- Coordinates various Industrial Hygiene & Occupational Health (IH/OH) programs required at the site – trained to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for environmental and physical hazards and stressors.
- Ensures that systems are in place to comply with corporate Safety and Health reporting requirements.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with regulators and other external stakeholders.
- Manages a team of Safety, and Health, professionals including a safety supervisor, safety technicians, competent persons, and SH&E administrators.
- Develops employees and performs all duties associated with supervision such as hiring, training, evaluating, counseling, and discipline.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline plus ten (10) years of work experience in an industrial environment or equivalent experience.
- Thorough knowledge of SH&E regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Solid understanding of a Management System (ISO 45001 and/or ISO 9001).
- Ability to interpret and apply domestic environmental regulations.
- Substantial experience with occupational hazard identification, related risk assessment, and determination of proper controls.
- Experience and education on investigation techniques and determining root causes and corrective actions.
- Able to cultivate a positive SH&E culture to achieve world class performance while maintaining a professional attitude.
- Demonstrated success leading improvements in SH&E in an industrial environment.
- Ability to establish and foster an environment that encourages initiative, creative thinking, collaborative action, and process improvement.
- Able to successfully interface with all regulatory agencies of the business unit.
- Ability to work effectively on cross functional and business-wide teams.
- Leadership experience and managing diverse teams. Experience supervising technicians, contractors, and internal employees as well as influencing others without formal authority.
- Must be able to support at the shipyard site, in-person, Monday through Friday, with the ability to promptly respond for emergencies/urgent matters after hours.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Advanced technical degree with a core curriculum in a safety or health field.
- Experience working in the shipyard/maritime industry.
- Experience reading and interpreting NAVSEA standard items and other government contract related requirements.
- Knowledge of Serious Injury and Fatality programs.
- Taproot knowledge and/ or training.
- Experience in Continuous Improvement.

Pay: $137,000.00 - $152,000.00 per year
