Job Summary
The Maryland Hospital Association is seeking a Senior Health Care Data Analyst to join our team in Elkridge, MD. This role provides quantitative analysis of health care discharge, quality, financial, and survey data to support MHA leadership, staff, member hospitals, and policy priorities. The Senior Health Care Data Analyst translates stakeholder needs into reliable datasets, reports, and dashboards; leads data collection, validation, structuring, querying, and visualization; and communicates insights that help improve access to care, quality, efficiency, and health outcomes for people and communities across Maryland.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Data analysis and reporting: Perform complex analyses of health care discharge, quality, survey, and financial data to support association leadership, staff, and member hospitals. Develop, prepare, present, and distribute specialized reports, dashboards, and data products that translate analytic findings into actionable insights for multiple audiences.
- Data Collection and Management: Support MHA’s survey data collection and other data intake processes, respond to data-related inquiries, and perform routine validation and integrity checks. Maintain clear documentation of data sources, definitions, refresh cycles, quality checks, and analytic methods to support reliable and reproducible reporting.
- Stakeholder Collaboration and Advocacy: Gather requirements from stakeholders, enhance analysis with additional insights, and tailor reports for different scenarios. Interpret data analysis and develop related communication to provide multiple constituencies an understanding of the analysis. Support MHA’s public comment process by summarizing key findings and member feedback.
- Process Improvement: Recommend innovative ideas, processes and/or procedures for enhancements, and modifications to improve existing systems. Recommend innovative ideas, processes and/or procedures for enhancements, and modifications to improve existing systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in public health, health administration, health informatics, data analytics, finance, statistics, economics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- A minimum of five years of work experience in health care analytics.
Qualifications
- Excellent analytical and/or operational problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret quantitative/qualitative analyses and provide insight for informed decision-making by identifying trends/patterns within complex data sets and visualizing and deploying the data to appropriately inform stakeholders.
- Skill in oral and written communication with the ability to effectively present findings and facilitate groups as needed.
- Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, self-direction, and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to learn new data sources, methods, and tools independently.
- Experience in survey development and execution.
- Experience working with a broad range of health care data, such as hospital discharge, Medicare cost reports, quality, utilization, financial, survey, or claims data.
- Experience in modeling the impact of Medicare hospital payment system and/or Maryland rate setting policies.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (advanced formula functions, pivot tables, VLookups, VBA) and ease with data management.
- Experience with programming languages and business intelligence tools preferred (PowerBI, SQL, python, R).

Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
