Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Manager to oversee and enhance our safety programs within the organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations, promoting a culture of safety, and minimizing risks on poultry processing facility. This role requires a strong understanding of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards, OSHA regulations, and poultry processing management practices.
Responsibilities
- Assists line and staff management to understand OSHA regulations and standards, including guidance on handling OSHA compliance, inspections, and citations
- Investigates serious injuries in conjunction with line and staff personnel. Notifies top management of pertinent details
- Evaluates hazardous conditions and practices and develops hazard control practices and programs. these include exposure to and danger from flammable, explosive, electrical, noise, radiation, confined spaces, and manual handling risks
- Assists in communicating hazard control information and evaluates effectiveness of the control
- Guides and assists plant personnel at locations with not only critical safety and health problems but also evaluates and ensures that health, safety and welfare requirements for ventilation, temperature, lighting, sanitary, washing and rest facilities at all locations
- Overviews company accident statistics and make recommendations for correction of problem areas
- Plans and directs safety and industrial hygiene services of insurance carriers to obtain optimum service
- Works with trade and professional organizations to promote goals and objectives in the health and safety area that affect company's business
- Assesses new developments in the health and safety field that may have application to the company's operations
- Establishes target areas and long-range accident prevention and cost-control objectives
- Keeps apprised of developments in federal and state safety laws likely to affect the company
- Acts as ranking company representative in dealing with government agencies on safety and health matters affecting the company
- Investigates fatalities or serious injuries that occur at company facilities
- Convenes the safety committees at each company location. Schedules and supports monthly safety walk thru at each location.
- Direct Report for PSM/RMP position. Provides direct supervision for success and continual improvement on the PSM/RMP initiatives.
- Recommends on site reviews by either industry safety consultants or agency (IOSHA) staff
- Ensures that the company provides essential emergency procedures, first-aid facilities, safety signs, relevant protective clothing and equipment, and incident reporting to relevant authorities
- Works with workers' compensation department to follow high-cost or precedent-setting cases
- May be required to assist with cost-control efforts, participate in manufacturing improvement committees, and the like
- Creates an atmosphere that safety is "number one" by using both firm implementation and also positive affirmation
- May be asked to help HR and Management with group health insurance and wellness issues
- Helps to set annual and one-time budget numbers for the safety department with management and accounting departments

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
