BASIC FUNCTION
The position of Health Data Analyst is responsible for developing data and analytics reports & dashboards to support the organization in making data-driven decisions. This involves working with other departments to identify, develop and implement system reporting tools and processes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Responsibilities:
- Data Collection & Management: Gather, clean, and validate healthcare data from a variety of sources, including electronic health records (EHR), claims data, patient surveys, and external databases.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Perform statistical analysis on large datasets to identify trends, correlations, and patterns that influence health outcomes. Generate reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Healthcare Metrics & KPIs: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor and assess healthcare processes, patient care quality, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
- Data Quality & Integrity: Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of health data through regular data validation and auditing procedures.
- Collaboration: Work with clinical teams, IT professionals, and management to translate complex healthcare data into actionable insights and recommendations for improving patient care and operational efficiency.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all data analysis activities comply with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) and industry best practices.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with developments in healthcare analytics tools, technologies, and methodologies to ensure the organization is using the best techniques to analyze and interpret health data.

PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Bachelors degree in health informatics, Public Health, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field. A masters degree is preferred. Certification in health informatics or data analysis (e.g., CHDA, CDIP) is a plus.
- Proven experience (2+ years) as a Data Analyst, Health Data Analyst, or in a similar role within the healthcare industry.
- Strong proficiency in data analysis tools such as SQL, Excel, Python, R, and specialized health analytics software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Experience working with healthcare datasets (e.g., clinical data, claims data, hospital data) and understanding of health-related metrics and benchmarks.
- Solid understanding of healthcare systems, policies, and regulatory requirements (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques, predictive modeling, and data visualization tools is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Electronic Health Record Skills Utilizes Electronic Health Record systems to accomplish document processing and retrieval
- Word Processing Skills - Prepares more complex documents in Microsoft Word, including creating tables, charts, graphs, and other elements.
- Spreadsheet Skills - Uses Microsoft Excel to analyze data, including the use of formulas, functions, lookup tables and other standard spreadsheet elements.
- Graphics/Presentation Skills - Creates basic presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.
Other Software Skills: Possesses the ability and aptitude to quickly learn and develop expertise in the use of other software platforms, as needed.
