The principal role of the Senior EHS Specialist is to implement Manufacturing Methods and Safety at the manufacturing plant. The right individual will have a thorough understanding of EHS Health, Safety and Environmental requirements including regulatory and compliance. The HSE EHS Specialist will need to be familiar with today’s current manufacturing techniques, we are a global automotive company, and we embrace a safe, clean and hazard free manufacturing work environment.
Job Scope
- Lead all EHS requirements as an example for others to follow.
- Create a culture of awareness, acceptance & adherence to the EHS requirements.
- Adheres to all safety policies and procedures
- Complies with 5S clean philosophy to maintain a safe working environment
- Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
- Schedule of routine inspections, and implement training according to findings
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and maintain appropriate Health, Safety, Environmental, Industrial and Process Safety Programs and necessary related training.
- Audit, analyze and collate EHS performance data and proposes effective improvements
- Perform facility audits, surveys and inspections to identify environmental and occupational hazards, to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and develop recommendations that provide solutions, remedies or process improvement.
- Manage SDS data - ensure safety in material handling.
- Proactively meets KPI requirements in order to reduce exposure and control risk.
- Recommend and implement new Green Processes while working closely with regulatory and corporate compliance via established auditing processes and risk analysis - work on various items with EPA, OSHA
- Ensure any plant hazardous waste - oil, machining fluid is disposed correctly. Lead Safety and Hazard assessments activities including Process Hazard Analysis, Job Safety Analysis.
- Attend training and seminars - then deliver training to staff in EHS/HSE/SHE skills and knowledge.
- Administer and manage the Workers Compensation program.
- Track compliance for the various Federal, State and Local environmental requirements
- Lead Safety Team and Waste Minimization Team programs to resolve or improve EHS performance.
- Prepare, submit and document all EPA and OSHA requirements up to but not limited to OSHA 300 log, CAA, CWA, RCRA, storm water / wastewater, Title V, PSM/RMP, SARA 311, 312, 313, Form R and Hazardous waste generator as well as Air Emissions annual inventory report.
- Develop and implement training for all personnel to assure understanding and compliance of EH&S programs and environmental permit conditions.
- Oversee all chemical and hazardous waste management, including transportation.
- Support and account for the EHS budget, including timely review of EHS related invoices.

Position Requirements and Qualifications
- 8+ years EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
- 5+ years in an EHS leadership/management role is ideal
- Experience at an Automotive OEM and/or Tier 1 supplier is helpful
- Must have experience with implementation/certification ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
- Must have working knowledge of ISO 9001, TS 16949
- Thoroughly understand regulatory requirements, including OSHA and EPA compliance standards, as well as regulations related to storm water / wastewater, RCRA, PSM/RMP, Title V, CAA, CWA, Form R, Air Emissions reporting and other federal, state and local laws.
- Must have knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, NFPA and HAZWOPER requirements.
- Experience in risk management, ergonomics, personnel protective equipment, industrial safety, injury and incident investigation, reporting, auditing and training.
- Successful track record of designing and managing employee safety, worker’s compensation and drug testing programs.
- Knowledge and ability to implement process improvements and program.
- Thorough understanding and working knowledge of automotive plants and processes/principles, company products, trade terminology, and manufacturing processes is a plus.
- Experience in a corporate and/or multi-site manufacturing setting experience.
- Ability to read and interpret training related documents for both office and production environments such as technical data, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to exercise exceptional independent judgment and discretion with the ability to take initiative on assigned tasks without significant supervision or be a successful member of a team.
- Systematic thinking ability and strong liaison and management skills.
- Experience partnering with HR colleagues to address the needs of differing business units while considering alignment with company objectives.
- Excellent presentation, delivery, and facilitation skills; ability to engage an audience.
- Ability to compile effective and concise visual reports in charts, graphs, and table format.
- Must be able to interact effectively and professionally with a variety of individuals at all levels within in a multicultural environment and with outside agencies, vendors, contractors, and regulatory representatives.
Education:
- Bachelors of Science degree in Safety, Environmental Engineering or other relevant discipline; or associate's degree in EHS.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is desirable.
Software Skills Required
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Experienced with ADP and SAP preferred
- Demonstrated skills in database maintenance and record keeping
- Strong understanding of HRIS Systems
