Job Description
The Safety Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert in workplace safety and will collaborate closely with the Corporate Safety Manager to support and enhance the organization’s overall safety program. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety policies, procedures, and programs designed to promote a safe and compliant work environment for all employees.
The Safety Specialist will regularly visit job sites to assess safety practices, provide guidance, and ensure adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements. This position requires travel 1–2 times per month during the work week to oversee job sites in person.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a safety subject matter expert supporting self‑performed industrial construction projects
- Actively engage with craft employees, foremen, superintendents, and project managers to reinforce safe work practices
- Conduct job site safety inspections, hazard analyses (JHAs), audits, and behavioral observations
- Support compliance with OSHA, client standards, and company safety policies
- Lead and assist with:
- Incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Corrective action development and follow‑up
- Workers’ compensation and return‑to‑work coordination
- Deliver safety training, new‑hire orientations, and toolbox talks
- Provide guidance on high‑risk activities such as:
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Confined space entry
- Fall protection
- Electrical safety
- Hot work (welding/cutting)
- Rigging, crane & lifting operations
- Heavy equipment and mobile machinery
- Assist with the development and improvement of company safety programs, procedures, and training materials
- Promote a proactive, relationship‑based safety culture focused on planning, prevention, and accountability
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred
- (Equivalent education and relevant experience will be considered)
- 3–5+ years of safety experience in industrial construction, heavy industrial maintenance, fabrication, or manufacturing
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and best practices for industrial construction and fabrication environments
- Experience supporting self‑performed multi‑craft work (electrical, mechanical, piping, structural, civil)
- Hands‑on understanding of mill operations, shutdowns, outage work, or brownfield environments strongly preferred
- Proven ability to communicate safety expectations effectively to craft labor and field supervision
- Strong skills in:
- Incident documentation and investigation
- Hazard recognition and risk mitigation
- Safety training and workforce engagement
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety documentation systems
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Combination of office and active industrial job sites
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, dust, and heavy industrial operations
- Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders and stairs, and work around operating equipment
- Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs occasionally

This role supports a diverse portfolio of work including residential, commercial, and heavy industrial construction projects. The Safety Representative must be adaptable and capable of applying safety standards across varying project types, scales, and risk profiles.
Travel Expectations:
Travel will vary based on project needs and may include local jobsite visits as well as periodic nationwide travel. Candidates should expect approximately 20–40% travel, including occasional multi-day trips.

Qualifications / Certifications:
Ability to adapt safety approach to different workforce types (subcontractors, small crews, large industrial teams)
- OSHA 30 (minimum) / OSHA 500 (preferred)
- CPR/First Aid
- CHST or STS (nice-to-have)
Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
