Position Overview
SAVI EHS is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager with a strong specialization in electrical safety and mechanical safety to support a complex construction project in Charleston, South Carolina. This position will work closely with the Construction Manager, MEP teams, and trade partners to ensure safe installation, commissioning, and operation of electrical and mechanical systems.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting energized work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), commissioning activities, rotating equipment, and mechanical installations in commercial or industrial construction environments. Strong safety credentials such as OSHA 30, OSHA 510, OSHA 500, NFPA 70E, ASP, GSP, CSP, CHST, or STSC are highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Environmental, Health, and Safety compliance for all electrical and mechanical construction activities
- Support safe execution of electrical installation, testing, and commissioning activities
- Monitor compliance with NFPA 70E, electrical safe work practices, and energized work procedures
- Oversee implementation of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs for electrical and mechanical systems
- Conduct and document daily EHS inspections focused on electrical and mechanical hazards
- Review and support development of Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for electrical and mechanical scopes
- Support safe installation of switchgear, transformers, generators, panels, motor control centers, and distribution systems
- Monitor mechanical installations including HVAC systems, piping, pumps, rotating equipment, and pressure systems
- Participate in Daily Hazard Analysis (DHA) and pre-task planning activities
- Investigate incidents and near misses and develop corrective actions
- Ensure subcontractors maintain compliance with project safety requirements
- Verify craft personnel are properly trained and qualified for assigned tasks
- Support commissioning and start-up safety planning
- Partner with project leadership to promote a strong safety culture
- Track and analyze safety metrics and trends
- Deliver site-specific safety orientations and training modules
- Coordinate with client safety representatives and risk management teams
- Support continuous improvement of site safety procedures and programs
Preferred Minimum Requirements
- 5+ years of construction EHS experience
- Strong experience in electrical and mechanical construction safety
- Experience supporting energized systems and commissioning activities
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E and electrical safe work practices
- Experience implementing and managing Lockout/Tagout programs
- OSHA 30 required; OSHA 510 or OSHA 500 preferred
- Professional certifications preferred (ASP, GSP, CSP, CHST, STSC)
- Experience working with MEP contractors and commissioning teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital safety management platforms
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred
