Summary
- The Industrial Nurse will be responsible for the development and administration of efficient and professional operations of occupational health services in accordance with company policies, practices, procedures, and applicable regulations to achieve the desired goals and objectives. Assists with all aspects of health services staffing, competency, processes, customer service, and quality improvement.
- Specialize in assessing workplace health and safety issues in the workplace and providing medical aid to persons who are injured or become ill in the workplace.
Functions
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Responsible for assuring the appropriate access and utilization of healthcare services.
- Prepare, maintain, and safeguard confidentiality of employee health information and health records.
- Perform pre-placement and periodic physical exams which include hearing test, pulmonary test, eye exam, and physical history with weight, height and blood pressure and other functions as appropriate and authorized.
- Provide emergency first aid, medical care, and arrange for treatment of occupational injuries and disease by a physician if necessary.
- Provide emergency care for non-occupational illnesses that occur during work hours.
- Screen employees before leaving work because of illness and on return following illness.
- Perform required hearing, vision, drug and alcohol testing and other tests as appropriate and authorized.
- Monitor the medical services budget that provides for efficient and cost-effective services, including vendor service.
- Serve as an integral member of the safety department, and regularly interact with the operations teams.
- Work with the Safety Manager and Safety Specialist to train or arrange for occupational health training of the First Responders.
- Collaborate with the Safety Manager to develop appropriate health surveillance and post-exposure monitoring based on monitoring results.
- Evaluate and treat all injuries and illnesses in an efficient and professional manner within the scope of practice and consistent with clinical nursing guidelines.
- Guide and direct all referrals to outside healthcare providers and services.
- Provide or manage the required physical evaluation programs and services to meet regulatory requirement (i.e., OSHA, CDC, etc.)
- Assist with the accident investigation program to identify root cause analysis of all incidents and near misses.
- Provide appropriate case management. Manage all cases to facilitate productivity, assuring appropriate care and return to work (includes workers’ compensation, short- and long-term disability cases).
- Assist departments with identifying, evaluating, and implementing accommodations and return to work options for workers with restricted duty.
- Collaborate with Safety, Health and Environmental, Operations, and Human Resources departments to develop operations, programs, and services by providing content expertise.
- Contribute in the design of controls for injury prevention and health surveillance related to actual and potential hazards in the work environment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Available 24/7 if needed during an emergency.
- Maintain OSHA logs
- Coordinate workers’ compensation claims.
- Serve as an active member of the site First Responder Team (FRT).
- Participate in additional or special projects as needed.
- Develop and implement health promotion strategies to optimize health and prevent injuries and illnesses.
- Keep educated and up to date with changes in the occupational and safety, health & environmental field.
- Serve primary resource and liaison to on-site first responder staff.
- Maintain First Aid Bags for Refinery.

Qualifications
Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses
The Following Are The Basic Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Nursing required.
- LPN license in the State of Georgia.
- Current CPR and first aid certification.
- Basic understanding of federal and state regulations applicable to occupational and environmental health and safety.
The Following Are The Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Active RN license in the State of Georgia.
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (CAOHN) or Case Management preferred.
Experience
The following are the basic qualifications:
- 1-5 years’ experience in Industrial or Occupational Health Nursing.
- AAOHN Certification preferred.
- Certified to conduct audiograms
- Certified in teaching First Aid/CPR
- Certified Urine Specimen Testing
- Certified Breath Alcohol Testing
The Following Are The Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene survey and employee monitoring
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including Any Physical Demands)

- Ability to administer medical aid in emergency situations
- Ability to work in high pressure situations and remain calm in medical emergencies
- Extensive knowledge of nursing principles and procedures
- Extensive knowledge of workplace hazards and safety risks

- Proficient in Microsoft 365 and/or similar software
- Knowledge of regulations pertaining to occupational health
- Knowledge of medical procedures and equipment
- Good diagnostic skills
