As a Senior Industrial Hygienist you will have the opportunity to:
- Direct complex safety and health work including site analysis, hazard anticipation and control
- Conduct on-the-job evaluations of industrial hygiene hazards applying the concepts of anticipation, recognition, evaluation, control, and confirm to reduce or eliminate hazards in the workplace
- Initiate and complete investigations into occupational health complaints associated with health-related hazards at DTSC Sites
- Mentor staff on technical and complex occupational health issues using professional training, experience, and appropriate references such as regulations and consensus rules
- Secure and implement hazard mitigation measures for health hazards to reduce or eliminate hazards in the occupational and community environment
Desirable Qualifications We Look For:
- At least five years of experience in: anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of occupational safety and health hazards preferred
- Skilled in professional written and verbal communication
- Ability to develop, write, and implement complex health and safety programs for hazardous waste operations, chemical laboratories and office settings
- Ability to apply principles, practices and methods used in the control of hazards associated with chemical and physical exposures and anticipate such exposures for control
- Ability to apply and maintain integrity utilizing tact and good judgment
- Ability to apply methods and techniques used in safety inspections, accident investigation/inspections, accident prevention, consultation, training, and technical report writing
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to prioritize and complete work in a timely manner utilizing time management and organizational skills
- Ability to identify occupational safety and health hazards and unsafe working conditions and practices in the construction, electrical, and industrial disciplines
- Ability to manage multiple health and safety programs and related tasks
- Ability to work independently and as a team leader
