California Overland, Ltd. is a transportation company based out of Wabasha, MN. We are currently hiring for the following role in our Safety Department.
Position Title: Safety Compliance Specialist
Position Summary:
Manage day-to-day processes focused on incident prevention (accidents, injuries, cargo claims, etc.), compliance with applicable laws and regulations (FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, etc.), and creating an effective safety culture. Support the Safety Director, serving as the principal back-up for all departmental responsibilities.
Functional Responsibilities:
1. Manage processes to ensure regulatory compliance:
-Driver Qualification Files
-Hours of Service
-Drug and Alcohol Testing
-Roadside Inspection Process
-Vehicle Maintenance
-Required Training
-Required Inspections
-Conduct driver audits
2. Monitor driver behavior utilizing available telematics:
-Provide feedback to drivers
-Recognize positive behavior
-Correct poor behavior through coaching and corrective action
3. Investigate incidents (accidents, injuries, cargo damage, etc.):
-Identify root cause(s)
-Conduct incident documentation and investigation
-Determine preventability
-Work with Safety Director to develop and implement preventive actions and apply appropriate corrective action as needed
4. Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance teams to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and safety procedures.
5. Strategically partner with department managers to continually improve driver safety, driver retention, and customer service.
6. Conduct ongoing interaction with drivers and share driver ideas, concerns, etc. with the leadership team.
7. Participate in new driver orientation and onboarding processes.

-2 years’ experience in transportation role preferred
-2 years’ experience in safety and regulatory compliance management
-Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and OSHA regulations

-Full time, exempt
-Day shift, 40+ hours per week, Monday-Friday, rotating Saturday mornings
-Travel as appropriate
-This job is in a normal office environment with no undue exposure to noise, dust, odors, etc.
-Sitting/standing; free to move around
-Some repetitive movements (i.e., typing)
-Sustained visual concentration on numbers, policy documents, etc. while viewing small areas such as computer screens

Base Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
