At Richelieu Foods we are making Great Food from Great People. We are looking for an experienced Director of Employee Safety and Environmental who is comfortable driving transformation while reinforcing a culture of collaboration and development.
The Director of Employee Safety and Environmental will be responsible for the coordination, planning and execution of our employee safety initiatives to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations and promoting a culture of safety throughout our organization.
Essential Functions:
- Develops and implements safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and industry best practices. Ensures adherence to recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
- Along with site management, act as change agent for the safety culture and continuous improvement and role model for ensuring compliance with safety and security policies and procedures.
- Promotes safety awareness and inspires commitment on the part of all employees on complying with Richelieu Foods safety standards and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Collaborates with site leaders across the Company in the development and implementation of safety focused policies, programs, and objectives.
- Reviews accident reports to identify patterns of injury and to determine whether unsafe conditions contributed to the accident; advises departments of trends in injuries and proper safety procedures that may result in reduction of injuries; provides departments with information that will aid in reducing accidents and improve safety.
- Conducts safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and implements corrective actions.
- Monitors safety performance metrics and provides analysis to senior management.
- Develops and drives safety training programs for employees and contractors.
- Stays current with safety regulations, laws, and industry trends to inform policy and procedure updates and is the company’s subject matter expert in all safety issues.
- Participates as an active member of the plants’ Safety Committees.
- Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and supports the Worker's Compensation Claims process as required by the State of Illinois and our Workers Compensation carrier.
- Conducts risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions. Recommends appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomic considerations, in all such efforts.
- Manages plant security to meet Responsible Care guidelines and Federal regulations.
- Understands and implements any parts of Environmental Compliance Plans, Waste Management Plans and Emergency Response Plan that applies to area of responsibility.
- Serves as a liaison for external and internal audits, inspections and agencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Must be an effective communicator, able to work in teams and train various group sizes
- Extensive knowledge of state and federal safety regulations and compliance requirements particularly OSHA regulations and safety management principles
- Strong ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines with detail orientated focus on results
- Demonstrated effective interaction with regulatory agencies and senior business leaders
- Proficient in various risk assessment and root cause analysis methods
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to influence management, teams and individuals across multiple functions
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Advanced Microsoft Office knowledge; advanced in Excel
Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, transportation safety, or related field, required
Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive safety leadership experience, required
- Food Manufacturing experience desired
- Proven ability to develop and implement safety policies and procedures
- Experience conducting safety audits and investigations
Universal Pay Verbiage:
The following information is provided in accordance with certain state and local laws. Compensation depends on experience, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation for this role is between $170,000 and $205,000. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan bonus. Benefits for this role include medical, dental, and vision insurance, pre-tax spending accounts, retirement benefits, paid time off, 401K with company match, short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance.
