Safety Director:

The role of the Safety Director is to help minimize the risk of job-related accidents and hazards. Training and development for employees related to plant operations, job sites hazard mitigation, equipment operations, and driver safety will be the top priority in this position. The Safety Director will also advise, develop and implement policies and programs to ensure compliance and to promote occupational health and safety awareness to reduce workplace injuries. This position requires an observant and analytical mindset focused on accident prevention. Will need a keen eye for detail and sensitivity for potential dangers and will also spend at least 50% of time in the field. Field time is to include job site observations, heavy equipment inspections, audits of asphalt manufacturing facilities and shop/maintenance facilities. Coaching and trainings will be done in the field and in office settings. The Safety Director will manage and oversee the area Safety Coordinators. The Safety Director will perpetually develop and implement safety programs, perform audits, and provide pertinent metrics to the Risk Manager or management team.

Needs to be authoritative and confident in intervening with unsafe activities or operations while also being diplomatic in building relationships with foreman and crews. Documentation and program development are key components of this role so skills with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Excel will be necessary. The ability to clearly communicate with a variety of positions is required. Must be a good public speaker and capable of leading training classes with confidence and competence. OSHA certified competent person in trenching and excavating and/or confined space is a plus as well as any additional OSHA credentials, particularly 510 and 500. CPR and First Aid certified is preferred. This position reports directly to the Corporate Risk Manager.

Refine and implement a safety training curriculum
Foreman Leadership Development Program
Middle Management Leadership Development
Asphalt Plant Safety
Drivers (CDL and non-CDL) Safety
Shop and Mechanic Safety
Job site inspections and observations for continuous improvement
Accident investigations and reporting
Revising Safety Orientation for new hires
Develop various curriculums and presentations
Communicate frequently with insurance adjusters, claims professionals, and injured workers
Develop a defined Return to Work program
Annual OSHA filings of 300 and 300 A logs
Oversight of Safety Coordinators
Record keeping and documentation
Safety-Specific Standard Operating Procedure development and training
Policy Enforcement
PPE, safety supplies ordering and distribution in conjunction with safety coordinators
Participate on Risk Performance Team to develop key initiatives
