Weyerhaeuser’s Health and Safety team is looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about workplace health and safety, a clear communicator, and a strong collaborator. This position requires technical knowledge of health and safety regulations and the ability to work in teams and independently. The ideal candidate will have experience in wood products manufacturing, or a related industry.
The health and safety team is committed to eliminating injuries and improving the company’s safety program and performance. Our team provides our leaders with strategic guidance and support and executes plans to improve our safety program. This position is full-time and will report to the Senior Health & Safety Manager. This position will require travel (up to 50% of the time) to, but not limited to, the Mid-South (LA, MS, OK, & AR). Relocation is not being offered at this time.
Location: The preferred location is to be based out of our mill in Dodson, Louisiana. Consideration will be given to our other wood product operations throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, or Arkansas. This role is not open to those who live in other states or countries.
In this role, you will provide technical safety support to WP Mid-South Region operations including:
- Direction in developing and tracking site risk-based safety plans.
- Periodic site safety inspections
- Lead, participate and/or support serious incident investigations and incident reports.
- Facilitate safety training such as incident investigation, safety leadership, hazard/risk recognition and assessment, etc.
- Work with region Manufacturing VP to identify high-risk sites or those needing specialized or increased safety support or intervention to resolve high-risk safety issues.
- Mentor and develop company safety leaders:
- Coach site safety manager, site manager, and site superintendent-level leaders in health and safety.
- Assist HR in identifying, interviewing, hiring and on-boarding new site safety managers.
- Evaluate the performance and development opportunities of site safety managers.
- Lead or participate on corporate safety audits
- Review and approve safety audit corrective actions to ensure on-time and satisfactory resolution
- Ensure proper classification/recording of injuries and illnesses
- Maintain and implement company safety processes including: Audits, standards, metrics, risk assessment, incident reporting system, training courses.
- Provide safety support as needed/requested to other company sites within the region.
- Collaborate with other health and safety liaisons to improve company processes and systems.
Qualifications
- Ability to travel up to 50%+ of the time
- Must be located OR planning to relocate to LA, MS, OK and AR
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene or scientific discipline
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or equivalent is desired, or actively working to attain such certification(s)
- Team player; excellent communicator; great people skills
- Self-starter with ability to function individually in a remote region as well as coordinate with broader team around the country
- Detail and results oriented
- Flexibility within the role and understanding that this job will require significant travel
- Managerial experience not required; however, familiarity with budget process helpful

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $95,000 to $142,500 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours.
