Summary
Ellensburg Cement Products is seeking a Environmental & Safety Manager to join our team in Ellensburg, Washington. Essential Functions
Develop safety plans and procedures, coordinate and facilitate safety training programs, maintain statistical information related to safety, perform accident/incident investigations and manage various jobsites to include the following specific tasks:
- Jobsite visits/safety audits – frequency as dictated by project and/or project personnel.
- Project safety start-up packets – new-hire packets, federal /state compliance materials, safety and workers compensation material.
- Review/assist superintendent with developing and implementing project specific safety plans.
- SDS and/or MSDS documentation – Provide sources for project teams to obtain and ensure that teams have required information readily accessible.
- Accident/Incident investigations including detailed written reports.
- Accident cleanup training and response.
- Address and provide resources and solutions for environmental and hazardous material issues and concerns.
- Conduct safety training for personnel and document said training.
- Coordinate First Aid / CPR training to ensure supervisors and other employees have up-to-date cards as required.
- Maintain all project safety records.
- Develop safety plans for drivers, mechanics and equipment operators and ensure compliance with said plans.
- Oversee drug testing program.
- Coordinate hearing testing program.
- Represent the Company at meetings involving safety professionals, alliances, associations, etc.
- Be primary contact with MSHA and OSHA and ensure compliance with those agencies.
- Accompany inspectors from various different regulatory agencies during their inspections.
- Oversee and participate in the safe transportation of heavy equipment between jobsites.
- Willingness to take on other projects as assigned by management.
- Develop safety plans and response documents for COVID-19 or any other pandemic or public health and safety issue that may arise.
- Manage the environmental permitting process for company and ensure timely maintenance and renewal of said permits (water quality, air quality, water meters, water rights, DNR reclamation, county permits, land owner contracts).
Education, Experience and Knowledge
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health & Safety or related field or a minimum 4 years of construction safety experience, preferably in the mining and construction industry.
- Knowledgeable in WA State Labor & Industries compliance requirements.
- Experience with commercial construction means and methods.
- Demonstrated accurate record keeping skills.
- 3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
- Ability to fully develop and manage a safety program for large commercial construction and/or mining projects.
- Ability to work with customers, vendors and subcontractors to achieve desired safety goals.
- Ability to oversee day-to-day safety operations in the field and manage required documentation, meetings, investigations, training, etc.
- Proven problem-solving abilities including ability to work independently and with others to address daily safety related issues.
- Experience working with OSHA required.
- Experience working with MSHA a big plus.
Typical work hours are Monday – Friday 7:00am – 4:30pm with occasional need for variations to this schedule depending on specific jobs, inspection schedules or equipment moves.
