Alliant Corp is currently seeking a highly skilled Industrial Hygienist to support operations at the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, SC. This position requires the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, prevention, and control of workplace conditions that may result in illness, impaired health, or significant discomfort to employees.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience conducting industrial hygiene surveys, exposure assessments, and occupational exposure monitoring. This role requires demonstrated experience performing industrial hygiene sampling for respirable crystalline silica, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), nuisance dust, and other workplace exposures as required.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Produce and conduct employee exposure assessments.
- Perform Industrial Hygiene surveys, sampling, studies, and investigations.
- Determine appropriate sampling equipment and sampling methodologies.
- Conduct occupational exposure monitoring and sampling, including:
- Respirable Crystalline Silica
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
- Nuisance Dust
- Additional workplace exposures as required
- Demonstrate technical competency with industrial hygiene equipment and monitoring instruments.
- Maintain, calibrate, and manage industrial hygiene equipment.
- Develop and maintain equipment management files and associated documentation.
- Provide training on industrial hygiene equipment and sampling procedures.
- Notify supervisors and affected personnel of sampling and monitoring results.
- Maintain records including:
- Exposure assessments
- Fit-testing records
- Training records
- Medical surveillance information, as applicable
- Participate in monitoring workplace health standards in accordance with applicable regulations and site requirements.
- Evaluate and interpret regulations and assist with compliance initiatives.
- Work under consultative direction toward predetermined goals and objectives.
- Provide industrial hygiene technical expertise and recommendations.
- Generate reports, charts, spreadsheets, and technical documentation as needed.
- Provide technical, administrative, and functional support to Industrial Hygiene programs.
- Perform duties moderate to complex in nature.
- Maintain knowledge of and perform work safely in accordance with approved safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Actively participate in safety initiatives and work groups.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Education / Skills / Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Safety Engineering, Physical Science, Environmental Science, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of Industrial Hygiene experience required.
- Demonstrated experience conducting industrial hygiene exposure assessments and workplace monitoring.
- Hands-on experience with industrial hygiene sampling for: Silica, VOCs, Nuisance Dust, Other occupational exposures as required
- Experience selecting, operating, maintaining, and calibrating industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring equipment.
- Experience maintaining exposure assessment records and industrial hygiene documentation.
- Intermediate PC skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong understanding of occupational health principles, exposure assessment methodologies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Department of Energy (DOE) facilities, nuclear sites, industrial operations, manufacturing facilities, or large-scale construction projects.
- Familiarity with SRS site procedures and requirements.
- Local candidates residing in the Aiken, SC or Augusta, GA area are strongly preferred.
