About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and flexible Community Outreach Mental Health Clinician to join our dedicated Safe Options Support (SOS) team . This is an essential role focused on providing comprehensive care to street homeless individuals throughout Orange and Dutchess Counties.
This is a dynamic, field-based role that requires meeting people where they are (via van or foot patrols ), building trust, and facilitating a stable transition from the streets to permanent housing.
The Schedule: This is a full-time position with a required schedule of Sunday – Thursday, 11:00 am – 7:00 pm.
Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach by van or on foot to engage individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Build trust with clients and provide short-term counseling and crisis intervention.
- Collaborate with local police, DSS, hospitals, the MTA, and community partners to connect and link clients to services.
- Navigate clients through the housing process and continue supporting them for several months after placement to ensure stability.
- Use trauma-informed, harm reduction, and person-centered approaches in all interactions.
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments to determine medical, psychiatric, and housing needs.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
- Use evidence-based practices like Critical Time Intervention (CTI), Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-Informed Care.
- Advocate on behalf of clients regarding discrimination or healthcare inequities, and provide basic needs as part of outreach.
Qualifications
- Required Education: Licensed Master’s degree or higher in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology; OR an individual who has a Master's degree and will be licensed within 6 months of starting in the position
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or behavioral health challenges preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and crisis intervention skills.
- Comfortable working outdoors and in varied field settings.
- Valid New York State driver’s license required.

- $80,000 per year - for candidates who are currently licensed.
- $72,000 per year - for candidates with a Master's degree who are not yet licensed (salary reflects additional clinical supervision provided).
