TITLE: Safety Engineer
REPORTS TO: Safety Asst. Manager
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
Overview:
The Safety Engineer will support the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs at our grey iron foundry manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a strong safety culture among all employees. The ideal candidate will proactively identify hazards, conduct training, and assist in the investigation of incidents to drive sustainable risk reduction.
Principal Accountabilities:
· Support and enforce compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulatory requirements.
· Conduct regular EHS inspections and audits to identify hazards, unsafe behaviors, and environmental risks in foundry operations.
· Assist with incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implementation of corrective actions.
· Monitor employee exposure to airborne contaminants, noise, heat, and other industrial hazards common to grey iron casting operations.
· Participate in the development and delivery of safety training, including new hire orientation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, hazard communication, PPE, and emergency response.
· Work closely with Production, Maintenance, and Engineering to ensure safe work procedures and job hazard analyses (JHAs) are in place and followed.
· Track and analyze safety metrics (e.g., near-misses, recordable injuries) and recommend improvements.
· Assist with safety improvement initiatives across the facility.
· Promote employee engagement in safety programs, committees, and continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
· 3-5 years of Safety experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing setting; foundry or metal casting experience highly desirable.
· Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910, EPA standards, and relevant state/local regulations.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office
· Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including exposure to high heat, dust, and heavy machinery.
· Certifications such as OSHA 30, and First Aid/CPR are a plus.
· Superior organizational, phone, interpersonal and customer relations skills both verbally and written.
· Ability to work with limited supervision.
Working Conditions:
Work area is normally heated/air conditioned in an office environment. There is an expectation of time spent in the production environment that is not heated/air conditioned and occasionally outside of the facilities. Hard hat, safety glasses, earplugs, steel-toed boots are required on production floor.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
