American Kraft Paper Industries, a leader in the production of high-quality kraft paper, is seeking a motivated and dedicated Safety Coordinator to join our growing team. Safety coordinator
The Safety Coordinator works under the direction of the Health & Safety Manager to accomplish safety goals. The Safety Coordinator will support and promote a safety forward culture mill wide and act as an important member of the organization’s Safety team.
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for:
- Champion mill-wide safety initiatives and ensure compliance with safety rules, codes, and regulations.
- Assist with incident or accident investigations, safety notifications, near-miss tracking, and safety audits.
- Coordinate, attend, promote and support safety training, new employee orientations, emergency response team / safety committee meetings, or any other relevant needs. (Facilitates in manager’s absence)
- Conducting accident investigations and researching safety concerns.
- Maintaining safety training records and safety documentation.
- Performing safety audits and inspections across the facility. (ladder, harness, housekeeping, etc.)
- Attends Morning Meetings and gives safety update in manager’s absence
- Performs New Hire/Transfer Safety Orientation
- Maintains and audits safety equipment; such as but not limited to confined space and emergency response equipment
- Maintains SDS Database as needed
- Provide safety oversight and support during planned and unplanned outages and machine downs.
- Research safety concerns of mill employees
- Interacts in all departments to promote safe behavior and one-on-one accountability
- Ensure the safety component documentation is updated and revised as necessary
- Actively engage with all departments to promote safe behaviors and individual accountability
- Supports, provides training, and promotes EHS Management Software
- Assist with safety projects and continue to drive safety improvements across site
- Supports and Promotes a Safety Forward Culture
- Other duties as needed
Requirements:
- 3 years of experience in a safety related role within a manufacturing environment preferred.
- OSHA 10 certification, (OSHA 30 preferred)
- Working knowledge of manufacturing safety programs (Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Near Miss, etc.)
- Proficient with – Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills / listening skills / facilitation.
- Proven leadership experience - Ability to build trust, motivate teams, and drive safety culture.
- Strong planning, organization, and analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Initiative and decision-making ability.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to train and influence others.
- Ability to be a team player
