Job Summary:
The Safety Specialist is responsible for proactively managing, developing, and continuously improving WMC’s safety program to achieve and maintain world-class safety standards. This position plays a key role in fostering a culture of safety throughout all levels of the organization by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, conducting risk assessments, and promoting safe work practices across all manufacturing operations. The Safety Specialist will collaborate with management, supervisors, and employees to identify potential hazards, implement corrective actions, and provide ongoing training and guidance to prevent potential workplace injuries and incidents.
We are seeking someone who will drive continuous improvement initiatives and champion employee engagement in safety programs to support WMC’s commitment to a safe, healthy, and productive work environment.
Essential Functions
- Identify hazards in the workplace by performing safety inspections and audits at both company locations.
- Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices for compliance with OSHA’s standards and regulations.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to identify root causes and determine preventative measures.
- Maintain and update safety related programs such as confined space entry, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, lockout/tagout, and others as applicable.
- Maintain and annually submit WMC’s OSHA 300 log.
- Conduct job safety analyses.
- Present safety training on various topics, including personal protective equipment, fall protection, lockout/tagout, hand/power tools, confined space entry, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and others as applicable.
- Maintain safety communication via bulletin board and TV display screens.
- Track and analyze injuries; set improvement goals and make recommendations for injury prevention.
- Lead monthly safety committee meetings and guide the team through open-action items to find and implement solutions.
- Maintains an up-to-date catalog of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensures immediate accessibility for all employees, in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Promote safe work practices and build a proactive safety culture.
- Update and communicate the open safety item tracking spreadsheet.
- Research and maintain current safety practices and regulations.
Supervisory Duties
Qualifications Required
- Knowledge of State and Federal OSHA regulations.
- Ability to effectively implement safe practices and policies.
- High energy work ethic with ability to work independently while maintaining strong internal and external professional relationships.
- Update and communicate the open safety item tracking spreadsheet.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's Degree (or near completion) in Occupational Health and Safety or related field
- 1-3+ years of experience overseeing safety programs in a manufacturing environment (Preferred).
Reasoning Ability
- Strategic and objective thinker with strong analytical skills.
Technical Proficiencies Required
- Proficient in Microsoft, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
