Location(s): Mid-Atlantic Region (Otego, NY) and Southeast (Knoxville, TN)
Position Overview
The Regional Safety Manager ensures the safety of employees, contractors, and project sites within the assigned region for Atlantic Power Constructors’ utility construction operations, including transmission & distribution (T&D), substation, and renewable energy projects. This role reports directly to the Director of Safety at the corporate office while maintaining a dotted line to the Regional Vice President to align safety programs with regional operations and project execution priorities. The manager fosters a proactive safety culture, enforces compliance with all regulations, and implements continuous improvement initiatives on every project.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Compliance
- Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures consistent with OSHA, state regulations, and company standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments for T&D, substation, and renewable projects.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents; recommend corrective actions and follow-up to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate safety records, logs, and documentation for corporate and regulatory reporting.
- Provide direct safety support during storm response and emergency restoration efforts, including:
- Assisting with pre-storm safety briefings and crew readiness checks
- Supporting live-line and energized work practices during restoration
- Traveling out of state when required for utility storm mutual aid events
- Ensuring fatigue management, safe work zones, and proper PPE usage during extended storm operations
Training & Employee Development
- Develop and deliver construction-specific safety training for field and office staff.
- Coach supervisors, foremen, and crews on safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
- Promote a proactive safety culture, encouraging reporting and continuous improvement.
Collaboration with Regional Leadership
- Partner with the Regional Vice President and project managers to identify and mitigate safety risks on all projects.
- Provide guidance during project planning, execution, and close-out to ensure safety integration.
- Advise on safety-related aspects of project scheduling, equipment use, and workforce management.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Report safety performance metrics, observations, and recommendations directly to the Director of Safety at corporate office.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement improvements to reduce incidents and enhance safety performance.
- Stay up-to-date on industry best practices, emerging regulations, and new safety technologies relevant to utility construction.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
· 7+ years of safety experience in utility construction or heavy civil construction, including T&D, substations, or renewable projects.
· Strong knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and other industry safety standards and regulations.
· Demonstrated ability to lead safety programs, conduct training, and influence teams at all levels.
· Excellent communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to travel frequently to regional project sites.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
