We have an exciting opportunity for a Safety Director with one of our Industrial clients located in Suffolk, Virginia!
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of progressive safety experience in construction and/or manufacturing environments.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA 1910 (General Industry) and OSHA 1926 (Construction) standards.
- Professional certifications strongly preferred: CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), OHST (Occupational Health and Safety Technologist), or equivalent.
- Experience conducting training, audits, and safety investigations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel to job sites and manufacturing locations regularly
Job Duties entail but are not limited to:
- Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety policies, procedures, and programs in line with OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulations.
- Lead regular safety inspections, site audits, and hazard assessments at both construction sites and manufacturing facilities.
- Conduct root cause investigations of incidents, injuries, and near-misses; implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and educational programs tailored to construction crews, shop-floor staff, and leadership teams.
- Oversee contractor/subcontractor safety performance, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Track, analyze, and report safety metrics (TRIR, DART, near-misses, etc.) to leadership with recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and plant managers to integrate safety planning into operations.
- Manage emergency response plans, evacuation drills, and crisis management procedures.
- Ensure proper use, inspection, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, and other safety gear.
- Stay current with new safety regulations, industry best practices, and innovations in construction/manufacturing safety.
- Foster a strong safety-first culture by engaging employees, recognizing safe behaviors, and leading by example.
Schedule:
- Monday-Friday 7am-330pm
- Overtime could be required on Saturday and Sunday
