Job Summary:
The Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing workplace health and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role ensures the organization fosters a safe work environment by conducting risk assessments, training employees on safety practices, investigating incidents, and implementing corrective actions to reduce hazards and improve safety performance.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
· Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety policies and procedures, and programs.
· Work with local, state, and federal agencies including OSHA to ensure compliance with all regulations and policies for health and safety standards.
· Plan and direct monthly safety training topics, safety onboarding including GHS training for new hires, and other safety-related training as required for all employees.
· Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments throughout the facility.
· Investigate and document accidents, incidents, and near misses, and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
· Analyze incident data and trends to implement proactive safety measures.
· Lead safety training programs and provide education to employees on workplace hazards, emergency procedures and safe work practices.
· Collaborate with management and employees to promote a strong safety culture.
· Develop and coordinate emergency response plans, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
· Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies and insurance providers.
· Collaborate with outside contractors to schedule monthly, quarterly, annual inspections, and service to safety systems as needed.
· Other duties, as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
· Associate degree in safety related field.
· Proven experience in safety management preferably in manufacturing.
· Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other safety regulations.
· Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
· Analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
