Health Information Specialist

The Health Information Specialist in intended to compile, process and maintain medical records in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system. To make available complete patient health information to authorized users in a timely, accurate & secure way by following appropriate HIPAA standards.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for accurately and efficiently filing pertinent patient information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system accurately and efficiently.
- Answering of inbound calls and emails.
- Processes requests for patient information by classifying accordingly (i.e. Physician Office, Insurance Reviews, Lawyers, and Worker's Compensation). Ensures the minimum necessary of protected health information (PHI) is used only for purposes identified or as required by law and not further disclosed without patient authorization.
- Ensures compliance with healthcare regulations and confidentiality laws, including HIPAA.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Required Skills and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Good computer skills/Good organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with healthcare professionals and patients.
- Maintains highest level of confidentiality at all times with both patient and organizational information.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience in a similar role
Physical Requirements:
- Sedentary-100% computer work
Location and Travel Requirements:
- Remote
- 5% Travel can be expected in this role
Pay Range Disclosure:
- $21.63 to $31.25 per hour
