Evaluate changes to nuclear explosives operations, facilities, and equipment to ensure that safe nuclear explosives operations are established and maintained.
- Ensures that hazards associated with explosives and nuclear explosives operations and facilities are identified, evaluated, mitigated, and/or controlled to prevent accidental detonation or deflagration of explosives and unintended nuclear detonation.
- Evaluate operating procedures, tooling, equipment, projects, and perform walk downs of operations and facilities against the requirements of the DOE 452-Series orders and supplemental directive.
- May be instructed to develop, implement or authorize process or procedure modifications by evaluating how proposed changes potentially affect nuclear explosives operations.
- Apply scientific principles, mathematics, and material science to the evaluation of nuclear explosives operations against federal safety requirements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for nuclear explosives safety on assigned areas and operations.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance is required.
- BS in engineering/science discipline: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience. Typical engineering/science experience ranging from 7 to 10 years. MS: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Position requires entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP); however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current HRP status. The ability to obtain and maintain HRP certification is required.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment.
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline combined with at least 4 years of related experience. However, a combination of education and related experience where knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position’s duties and accountabilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
Preferred candidates will have BS in electrical engineering, or a Master and/or Bachelor of Science degree in a related engineering/science discipline combined with at least 2 years of experience that includes relevant experience specializing in explosives, nuclear explosive, or nuclear weapons related fields: safety, design, assembly/disassembly, manufacturing, testing, transportation, handling, or storage; or other similar experience in high consequence operations.
- The position requires an understanding of Configuration Management, Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and nuclear facilities within a nuclear regulated environment.
- The position requires an understanding of causal analysis and mistake proofing (CA/MP) methods and the ability to identify and implement needed business improvements.
- The ability to evaluate and provide feedback on change control and related configuration management.
- Able to make informed decisions and support those decisions to peers and senior management.
- A general understanding of PDMLink software for configuration management.
