We are seeking a dedicated Safety Manager to join our team and uphold our high standards of safety across all operations.
As the Safety Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs and procedures at our cattle feed yard, trucking, and pork processing facilities. You will collaborate with various departments to identify potential hazards, mitigate risks, and promote a culture of safety excellence. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with industry regulations and fostering a safety working environment for all employees. You should have a passion for continually wanting to improve our safety culture and building agile safety processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Program Development: Develop and maintain safety policies, procedures, and protocols tailored to the specific needs of each facility, in alignment with industry standards and regulations,.
2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, such as machinery operations, animal safety, transportation activities, and chemical handling. Implement measures to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.
3. Training and Education: Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors. Topics may include emergency response procedures, equipment operation, hazardous material handling, and ergonomic practices.
4. Compliance Monitoring: Stay abreast of federal, state, and local safety regulations relevant to the agricultural industry. Ensure locations remain compliant with all applicable laws and standards through regular audits and inspections.
5. Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses. Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Maintain detailed records of incidents and corrective measures.
6. Safety Culture Promotion: Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability among all employees. Encourage active participation in safety initiatives, committees, and programs.
7. Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, such as fire, chemical spills, and severe weather. Coordinate drills and training exercises to ensure readiness.
8. Continuous Improvement: Analyze safety performance metrics and trends to identify areas for improvement. Implement strategies to enhance safety effectiveness and efficiency over time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Heath and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. Relevant Certifications (e.g. CSP, ASP, OHST) are a plus.
- Proven experience, 5+ years, in safety management within the agricultural or food processing industry, with 3+ years in leadership.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards, such as OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks, investigate incidents, and implement effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the capacity to lead safety committees, train employees, and drive change.
- Bilingual – Fluent in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
