The Safety Companion provides one-on-one patient observation deemed high risk for falls, suicidal thoughts/tendencies, delirium, and/or withdrawal at the direction of the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse of the assigned unit.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides 1:1 continuous supervision to patients who require observation for safety reasons without family or caregivers.
- Maintains a safe environment conducive to effective team functioning, positive patient outcomes, and personal/patient safety.
- Provides patient distraction by performing interactive activities with the patient (reading to the patient, providing music, playing games, etc.).
- Performs reality orientation with confused patients.
- Provides specific patient care per unit standards in which you are floated.
Education:
High school or equivalent preferred
Experience:
Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred
Licensure/Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within first year of employment
