Shahbaz/Universal Care Partner Position, Mustard Seed Village

About Us
Since 2007, the Mustard Seed Project has worked to build an elder-friendly Key Peninsula where our elders can age in place with dignity and respect. Our mission is to ensure choices for healthy aging on the Key Peninsula by connecting seniors with innovative programs and resources. A nonprofit organization, 120 volunteers help us provide transportation, friendly visitors, information & referral, health & wellness classes, and education. Mustard Seed Village is an assisted living and memory care home for those elders who need supportive housing. It is located across the street from our senior center.
The opportunity
You’re looking for a position that uses your love of people, your teamwork skills, and your positive energy. You respect and honor our Elders. You have experience working with folks in Memory Care homes or a desire to gain that experience.
If this is you, you might be joining the Mustard Seed Village as a shahbaz. This full-time hourly position reports to the Guide and works closely with the Nurse and the staff team at the Village and at the Crandall Center.
As part of your job at our Village in Key Center, you will
- Adhere to policies and procedures while providing assistance in the following areas at the Mustard Seed Village. 1) Bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene and nail care. 2) Incontinence care or toileting assistance. 3) Positioning, transferring and ambulation. 4) Assisting with medications and treatments as assigned.
- Escort Elders to activities of choice and meals.
- Reports observations of changes in an Elder's physical or mental well-being to the Nurse.
- Demonstrate knowledge of infection control via proper handling of equipment, soiled linen and adequate hand-washing. Exposure to bodily fluids is likely.
- Assist with preparing and serving meals as assigned.
- Provide laundry and housekeeping services to Elders, including change of bed linens, as assigned.
- Maintains thorough competency regarding fire, missing persons and other other emergency policy and procedures.
- Assist the Activities Coordinator in planning, preparation and execution of in-house activities and outside excursions.
- Demonstrate awareness of and compliance with HIPPA
- Answer the telephone after hours in a polite and courteous manner. Record messages in writing and fill our appropriate inquiry forms for the Guide to follow up on the next business day.
This full time position requires
- Availability for 40 hours per week.
- Shifts available are Day 6 am to 2 pm and Evening 2 pm to 10 pm.
- Attendance and participation in training, in-service and staff meetings.
Needed Education/Skills:
Excellent skills in communication, organization, attention to detail, time management, and ability to multitask
Memory Care experience is a desirable
Have CNA or HCA certification or be willing to go through the program.
Must have or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
Must have or be able to obtain a Food Handler's card.
Ability to care for, interest, motivate and interact with the diverse range of individuals living in our homes.
Current driver's license and insurance.
Background check mandatory
Ability to walk, stand, and occasionally lift for other physical activity involved in set-up and preparation for daily activities.
High school graduate (minimum)
Applicant will be based in our Mustard Seed Village in Key Center.
Sick time and vacation are pro-rated, based on hours worked.
