Position: Site Safety and Health Officer
Location: Salinas, Puerto Rico

Role Overview:
The Safety Officer is pivotal in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment within the construction industry. This individual is responsible for assessing, monitoring, and mitigating health and safety hazards, ensuring that all practices adhere to stringent safety standards. The role demands a proactive approach to developing and implementing safety strategies for workplace risk control and accident prevention.
Responsibilities:
- Comply with all occupational health and safety (OSHA) guidelines and EM 385-1-1.
- Inspect workplaces to ensure that equipment, materials, and production processes do not present a safety or health hazard to employees or the public.
- They are assessing the risks and possible safety hazards of all operations in each assigned project.
- Creating analytical reports of safety data about every visited project; daily reports.
- Ensure that all safety and health statutes, regulations, and codes are clearly understood and met.
- Presenting safety principles to staff in meetings or lecture-type training sessions, "toolbox meetings."
- They share information, suggestions, and observations with project leadership to create consistent safety standards throughout the production team and the company.
- Meeting company health and safety goals.
- They are investigating the causes of accidents and other unsafe conditions on the job site.
- They are liaising with law enforcement, and other investigators present at the time of a severe accident.
- They are finding the best way to prevent future accidents. They review and report on the staff's compliance with health and safety rules.
- Assists in preparing various reports, documents, and forms, as requested.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, construction management, occupational safety, and health, or related field
- Ten (10) years of previous experience in comprehensive workplace safety and compliance programs
- Solid knowledge of USACE EM 385-1-1 regulations.
- This position requires possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver's license.
- Reliable transportation is required.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
- Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and walk throughout the workday.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).
- Up to date on the latest local and state OSHA regulations and guideline changes.
Communications Skills:
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from our clients.
- Ability to maintain effective work relationships.
- Good oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
Work Conditions:
- Safety officers spend a lot of time on or around construction job sites. As with all careers in the construction industry, safety is the top priority. While on construction or other job sites, safety officers (not surprisingly) must be aware of and comply with all relevant safety policies and procedures.
- Psychical demands: walk, bend, sit, lift, and drive, among others.
- Work environment: Changing temperatures: the employee is exposed to different temperatures during the day (hot, cold, rain, etc.). Noise level: the employee is exposed to loud noises produced by the equipment at the work site.
